Picture Perfect to open at NewMarket Square where Scentchips currently is

WICHITA — Picture Perfect is closing its West Central store because the owners have found a picture-perfect new spot: NewMarket Square.

“We think that’s where everybody’s shopping,” says Tracy McKissick, who owns the print shop with her husband, Trent.

The McKissicks will close their store at 8000 W. Central by Bishop Carroll High School after business Saturday.

There’s also a Picture Perfect at Central and Edgemoor that will remain open.

The new Picture Perfect will open in early March in what’s currently the Scentchips space.

The lease for Scentchips was going to be up later this year. Since the McKissicks wanted that space, the owners of Scentchips decided to close early. They’ll be out of the building by Sunday.

April Reed of Slawson Cos. handled the deal.

Frozen in Time, A Scrapbook Boutique to open in former west-side Chill Gelato space

WICHITA — A new business is coming to the former Chill Gelato space at 2404 N. Maize Road, and though it may at first sound like another place for frozen treats, it’s not.

That’s why owner Joni Berblinger Stolz is adding a tagline to the name of her store: Frozen in Time, A Scrapbook Boutique.

A scrapbooker herself, Berblinger Stolz decided to turn her hobby into a business.

The store will have everything someone needs to make a scrapbook, including a variety of classes.

The store will be open seven days a week.

Monday through Friday, it will be open until 8 p.m. to attract shoppers who maybe can’t make it earlier in the day.

Don Piros of Landmark Commercial Real Estate handled the deal.

Complete Landscaping Systems to move into Baldridge Electric space on East Second; Baldridge looking for new space

WICHITA — With its recent acquisition of Green Thumb, Complete Landscaping Systems is expanding its space by buying the building next to its current headquarters at 1727 E. Second St.

George Baldridge of Baldridge Electric wasn’t looking to move from 1717 E. Second St., but he didn’t mind either.

“Part of it’s downsizing,” Baldridge says. “We just have a lot more inventory than we need to have, and the times are tough.”

His current building is 8,000 square feet with another 12,000 square feet of yard area.

Baldridge would like to find another building in that area that’s about 5,000 square feet with at least 1,000 square feet of land for trucks and material.

B98-FM to interview Brett Harris’ possible replacements in a “Wichita Idol” format

duoWICHITA — A lawyer for Brett Harris met with Clear Channel Radio representatives Friday, but there’s no resolution on whether Harris will remain as morning host at B98-FM.

“Brett has been given a new contract offer, and he has yet to respond,” says Tom Glade, Clear Channel vice president and market manager.

Glade previously said he’s starting a search for Harris’ replacement just in case.

Now, he’s bringing five candidates to Wichita to compete in “Wichita Idol (Tracy’s Looking For A Good Man).”

Each candidate will co-host with Harris’ former morning co-host, Tracy Cassidy, who has been doing the show with guest hosts since Glade told Harris he couldn’t return until he made a decision.

Listeners will be invited to offer their comments on each host starting Monday.

“They’re certainly going to have a role,” Glade says of listeners helping select Harris’ replacement.

Karl Peterjohn, onetime Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce foe, to speak at the group’s Chairman’s Lunch

peterWICHITA — When invitations recently went out for the Feb. 11 Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce’s annual Chairman’s Lunch, three speakers were listed, but only two by name.

Mayor Carl Brewer will speak, as will 2010 Chamber Chairman Sam Williams.

The third speaker is the Sedgwick County Commission chairman, who at the time the invitations were printed was not yet elected.

Now he has been, and it’s Karl Peterjohn. As in the same Peterjohn who in 2008 claimed there was a “political jihad” against him by the Chamber and its political action committee.

“I was the No. 1 candidate that the Chamber opposed,” Peterjohn says.
