IFurn.com CEO says company going out of business due to Internet competition

WICHITA — IFurn.com, a company that CEO Tracy Norris last year said was poised for growth, is going out of business.

“iFurn has proudly served customers across the nation for 17 years and delivered quality home and office furniture right to your door,” Norris wrote in an e-mailed response to Have You Heard?

In that e-mail and in one he sent to customers on Feb. 27, Norris wrote:

“Regrettably, iFurn.com, Inc. has been forced to cease day-to-day business activity. This has been caused by deteriorating sales activity and increased competition within the internet.”

Norris started iFurn.com in 1998 to sell home and office furniture. Last year, he told The Eagle the company had sales of more than $12.5 million in 2012.

Norris also reported sales of about $2.5 million for his other main company, PainReliever.com, which sells a variety of medical products to consumers and businesses.

It’s not clear if or how that company may be affected by iFurn’s struggles.

A former chiropractor, Norris sold his practice and began devoting his work full time to Internet companies in 2007.

Both of Norris’ companies have been named to Inc’s 5,000 fastest-growing companies list: iFurn.com in 2008 and Pain Reliever in 2010.

Carpenters’ Union Local 201 to consolidate office and training center on East Kellogg

WICHITA — The Carpenters’ Union Local 201 will consolidate its office and training center into one site by the end of this year.

Last year, the union purchased the former Circuit City space at 8405 E. Kellogg near the entrance to I-35.

“We are remodeling it now so that we can move our local union office over there and open a training center,” says Martin Walter, general counsel for the Carpenters’ District Council of Greater St. Louis & Vicinity.

Tracy Alan Norris, who owns iFurn.com and PainReliever.com among other companies, used to own the building and still leases 10,000 square feet there.

“The plan is that initially we’re going to occupy about 16,000 to 18,000 square feet,” Walter says.

He says they’ll leave the rest of the space for future expansion of the training center.

Currently, the union’s office is at 2610 S. Seneca. Its training center is at 1225 W. Carey Lane. Walter says the union leases the office space and owns the approximately 6,000-square-foot training space.

“We’ll probably be looking to sell that.”

PainReliever.com to open first retail outlet in former Circuit City space on East Kellogg

WICHITA — Businessman Tracy Alan Norris, who owns iFurn.com and PainReliever.com among other companies, has new plans for the former Circuit City space at 8405 E. Kellogg.

Norris bought the building, which had been vacant for years, last year and immediately moved his warehouse to the 40,000-square-foot space near the entrance to I-35.

Norris had contemplated putting a furniture showroom there.

“Now it’s completely changed,” says Kaci Dochow, a pay-per-click marketer who works for him.

“We are opening up a pain reliever retail store.”

This will be the PainReliever.com’s first retail outlet.

Wichita-area customers who have realized the Internet company is local have already been picking up their purchases at the warehouse.

“We’re just expanding on that space,” Dochow says.

The retail version of the business will be in about 1,000 square feet near the front and east side of the store where customers have already been stopping by.

“It’s just sort of a test base for us right now,” Dochow says. “If it blows up, we will expand, definitely.”

Internet entrepreneur Tracy Alan Norris buys east-side former Circuit City building for new headquarters

UPDATED — Some alert readers have noticed lights on in the former Circuit City space on East Kellogg lately.

The building has been empty since Circuit City left years ago.

There’s a new owner of the building, but he’s not ready to say much yet.

Tracy Alan Norris, who owns iFurn.com and PainReliever.com, said in an e-mailed statement that he bought the 40,000-square-foot building at 8405 E. Kellogg, which is near the entrance to I-35.

He’ll use the building as his corporate headquarters and to house his company’s warehouse.

Norris is a former chiropractor who practiced here for 20 years until selling his clinic in 2006 after having success with his online ventures.

His iFurn.com has been selling home and office furniture since 1998.

PainReliever.com has been selling pain relief products since 1997.

Norris plans to open a new venture at the new space in 2011. He’s not sharing details just yet, but Norris says he promises to share the scoop with Have You Heard? when he’s ready.

Norris currently has an office in Legacy Park at 21st and Webb, which is now for lease — which Norris would prefer — or sale.

The 5,600-square-foot building is on about an acre and has what Norris calls “relaxing pond views.”

It’s where he had his chiropractic office and where he has his headquarters for his online businesses until January when he moves.

Norris says there are four treatment rooms, two large offices, a spacious waiting room and conference and break rooms.

He’s asking $795,000. If you’re interested, you can reach Norris at 316-239-6302.
