Locker Room by Lids to open at Towne East

WICHITA — Locker Room by Lids is coming to Towne East Square this spring on the lower level of the mall near JCPenney.

The store sells sports apparel and accessories.

Also this spring at Towne East, teen retailer Aeropostale is relocating to the upper level near Old Navy in the JCPenney wing.

“We’re excited to welcome Locker Room by Lids to Towne East Square soon,” Towne East general manager Jeffrey Runnels said in a release. “The addition of this store and renovations to existing retailers complements our already great mix of retail and dining options, providing more options for Wichita shoppers.”

Maurices to expand at NewMarket Square

WICHITA — Maurices is expanding at NewMarket Square.

“I know that they’ve wanted to expand for years, and we’ve just finally found an opportunity to do that,” says April Reed of Slawson Cos., the NewMarket developer.

The shop, which sells women’s clothing, accessories and shoes, currently is in 3,622 square feet between the former Borders store and Justice.

In July or August, Maurices will move to 6,000 square feet near Bed Bath & Beyond. Old Navy recently downsized, and Maurices will take its former space.

Reed, who handled the deal for the space, says Maurices is making the move in part to expand its plus-size offerings.

New tentant likely headed to former Old Navy space at NewMarket Square

WICHITA — Old Navy has been downsizing nationally for a couple of years, including at NewMarket Square at 21st and Maize.

The Slawson Cos. development has taken back 6,000 square feet of former Old Navy space — the store remains open in a smaller area — and is working on a new lease there. Look for details in the next couple of weeks.

Old Navy to downsize its NewMarket Square store by 5,000 square feet

WICHITA — The Old Navy store at NewMarket Square at 21st and Maize is looking to sublease about 5,000 square feet of its space.

That would leave the store with about 17,000 square feet.

The downsizing is in line with what Old Navy’s parent company, Gap Inc., is doing nationally.

The NewMarket Old Navy will stay in its current 22,000 square feet until a new tenant is found.
