Chosen Wok to take former Starbucks space at Westlink Shopping Center

UPDATED — At long last, there is a new tenant for the former Starbucks space in the Westlink Shopping Center at Central and Tyler.

Michelle Chin and William Tsao are opening Chosen Wok there in December.

“There is a drive-through, and it’s a pretty good location,” Chin says.

They plan to serve traditional Chinese cuisine.

Tsao has a Chosen Wok in Great Bend.

In addition to the drive-through, the restaurant will be able to seat about 40, with more seating on the patio.

It will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Handling the deal were Joe Verbeckmoes of Benchmark Real Estate Group, Andy Boyd of Walter Morris Cos. and Doug Malone of J.P. Weigand &  Sons.

“We were a little bit limited on who we could bring into that building,” Verbeckmoes says.

Westlink already has restaurants, which have rights of refusal, serving Mexican food, pizza and hamburgers.

Verbeckmoes says Starbucks lasted in the space only six months because shortly after opening, the company announced a plan to shut 700 stores in 2008.

He says that location was just starting to break even.

“It was a corporate decision,” he says. “They just shut ’er down.”

Verbeckmoes says the building is first-class space, and Chosen Wok is an ideal addition.

“This is a great fit for Westlink and for the area.”
