Jon’s Ale House to close

WICHITA — A year after opening, Jon’s Ale House is closing.

Anthony Lynch opened the bar downtown in the former Kelly’s Irish Pub space at 917 E. Douglas, which is next to the Beacon restaurant. He named it for his late friend Jon Pine.

Lynch won’t discuss why the bar is closing other than to say it didn’t work.

When the bar closes at midnight tonight, it will be closed for good.

Jon’s Ale House to open in former Kelly’s Irish Pub space downtown

UPDATED — A new bar is going in the former Kelly’s Irish Pub space at 917 E. Douglas.

Anthony Lynch is opening Jon’s Ale House, which is named for his late friend Jon Pine.

“He basically got us into drinking different types of beers,” Lynch says of himself and general manager Damon Coleman, Pine’s cousin.

“He enjoyed beer.”

Lynch says he used to drink Bud Light before Pine introduced him to a variety of other beers, which is what he says is now inspiring his business.

“That’s the whole concept of the bar,” he says. “We’re going to have a diversity of beers.”

Lynch expects to have more than 120 kinds of beer along with a limited food selection of mostly sandwiches and hot dogs. He says that could grow over time.

There will be a variety of music, including live bands and a DJ one night a week.

Lynch says he’s hoping to have Jon’s Ale House open by early January.

He thinks Pine would approve.

“He would love it. He would be there every day.”
