Invio Fine Furniture Consignment expands and Cohlmia Interiors opens at center behind Havertys on Rock Road

UPDATED — The strip center behind Havertys on Rock Road has inadvertently become something of a design center.

“Yeah, it’s kind of neat,” owner Steve Clark says. He considers the center at 1719 N. Rock something of “an incubator for small businesses.”

“It has evolved into a little design center there.”

Diva Furniture is at the north end of the center, and Invio Fine Furniture Consignment, which has been located within Diva, is now moving to its own 1,200-square-foot space two doors down.

“We have an option to expand over here,” Invio owner Andrea Attwater says. “I’d love to double our space.”

For now, she still has 1,000 square feet within Diva to sell some of her more high-end pieces.

The new space is open during construction. Attwater plans to have an open house Oct. 20.

“That’s my goal, to be all painted and ready.”

JK Design also is located within the Diva space.

Budget Blinds is between Diva and Invio.

Different Perspectives Photography, a photography studio, is on the other side of Invio’s new storefront.

On the other side of that, Jeff Cohlmia has opened Cohlmia Interiors in 2,400 square feet.

That’s substantially smaller than the 8,300-square-foot Home Gallery by Cohlmia he used to have near Central and Woodlawn.

“We have basically the same manufacturers, but we are showing some things that are less expensive but still in the same quality range,” Cohlmia says. “We’re happy to be open again, and we hope to see everyone.”

Attwater is happy for the unplanned design center.

“It’s kind of fun,” she says.

As Clark says, “It’s always good to have some synergistic uses in a property like that.”

West-side Great Harvest Bread to close

WICHITA — As Tim Heeren prepares to move and expand his east-side Great Harvest Bread, he’s closing his 3-year-old west-side store.

The Great Harvest near 21st and Maize Road will close on Saturday.

“We’re taking on an awesome project,’ Heeren says of his east-side store. “I really need to give 100 percent of my efforts there.”

Heeren is moving his east-side Great Harvest from 6509 E. Central to 533 N. Woodlawn to part of the former Home Gallery by Cohlmia space.

He’s expanding his product line by adding new kinds of bread, such as hard-crusted bread, and bagels. He’s even jumping on the current craze and adding frozen yogurt.

Heeren also is expanding his lunch offerings and adding breakfast as well.

The new place will open in September.

“At this time we’re going to concentrate all of our efforts on this location and see how that goes,” Heeren says.

He may be able to offer a similar concept on the west side one day.

“If we could duplicate something like this, then we’d take a look at it. Absolutely.”

In the meantime, he hopes west-siders will make the trip.

“We just appreciate the patronage and all of the business over the years,” Heeren says. “We truly hope that everybody comes and sees us at the east store.”

East-side Great Harvest Bread to move, expand

WICHITA — There’s going to be a bigger Harvest this fall, but not necessarily of crops.

Tim Heeren is moving his East Central Great Harvest Bread from 6509 E. Central to 533 N. Woodlawn to part of the former Home Gallery by Cohlmia space.

“We’re going to expand our product line . . . and we just need more space to accommodate our equipment,” Heeren says.

He’s adding new kinds of bread, such as hard-crusted bread, and bagels. He’s even jumping on the current craze and adding frozen yogurt.

“It’s just such a natural product to have,”  Heeren says. “It isn’t rocket science.”

He adds, “I guarantee you our price will be a bit more competitive than these yogurt places.”

Currently, the store and restaurant are in 1,600 square feet. The new space, which will be ready in September, will be 4,500 square feet.

That will allow for increased seating — about 50 seats compared to the current dozen. There also will be an expanded patio.

“It’ll just be more appealing,” Heeren says.

Roo Grayson home decor to open near Central and Woodlawn

WICHITA — There’s a new home decor store opening by a couple of other well-known ones near Central and Woodlawn.

Roo Grayson is opening next month at 515 N. Woodlawn not far from Twigs and Home Gallery by Cohlmia.

“It’s just a little bit of everything,” Karla Binns says of her shop.

And she means it.

She’ll have antiques, furniture, a jewelry line from Sweden, handmade mahogany pieces from Indonesia, salvaged pieces from other countries and, believe it or not, a small area for spray tanning.
