Adalee’s Paper Boutique to open at NewMarket Square in October

WICHITA — Brooke Carpenter has decided to return to the workforce, and that means Wichitans soon will have a new source for stationery and cards.

“It became clear to me that there was a gap in the market, that there wasn’t a place here to get fine stationery and paper products,” Carpenter says.

So she’s opening Adalee’s Paper Boutique in 1,400 square feet at NewMarket Square.

“We do so much online these days,” Carpenter says. “To get that special piece of paper, to get that special invitation in the mail, is becoming increasingly special.”

She and her husband, David, moved to Wichita from Washington, D.C., a couple of years ago when he took a job with Spirit AeroSystems.

Carpenter had been an event planner in Washington and enjoyed what she calls the “wedding process.” She also helped friends and clients with stationery on the side.

Since she’s been in Wichita, Carpenter has been staying home with her 3-year-old, Chloe, who has a rare genetic disorder.

“I decided it was time to get back to work,” Carpenter says. She still wants to be available for her daughter, which “was part of the reason that starting my business made more sense.”

Carpenter is naming the store for her husband’s late grandmother, whose wedding ring she wears.

“She was a really neat old lady,” Carpenter says. “Just a classic lady but really modern and trendy.”

That’s how she envisions her store, too.

Supplement Giant and Home Fitness Exercise Equipment Co. to move to Rock Road frontage

WICHITA — Supplement Giant and Home Fitness Exercise Equipment Co. are taking a short jaunt across the parking lot at Tallgrass Plaza at 21st and Rock Road to larger space in the former Blockbuster store there.

“Front-row visibility” was the draw says Wayne Ragsdale, who owns the business with his wife, Lisa.

The Ragsdales opened their first Supplement Giant at the intersection 21 years ago. They also have one on the west side at 2556 N. Maize Road and one in the Denver area.

The 5,200-square-foot former Blockbuster space is 1,000 square feet more than the Ragsdales currently have.

Wayne Ragsdale says this will allow them to have better displays and expanded product lines.

That wasn’t their main reason to move, though.

Vitamin Shoppe is opening in a new retail center under construction on the northeast corner of 21st and Rock Road.

GNC to open in Derby Marketplace

WICHITA — GNC is the latest business to sign a lease at Derby Marketplace at 71st South and Rock Road.

The chain offers vitamins, supplements and other nutritional aids. A district manager says the store will carry the full GNC line and open sometime in February.

Complete Nutrition to open at Towne East Square

WICHITA — A new supplement store is opening at Towne East Square.

Complete Nutrition will be in about 1,500 square feet on the lower level near Dillard’s.

“It’s kind of a newer franchise,” says owner Austin Schweitzer.

He says several people who used to be involved with GNC started the chain.

Schweitzer says the store sells supplements to help with muscle building, weight loss and general health.

With sometimes extreme Kansas weather, Schweitzer says he preferred to open in a mall rather than a strip center.

“It seems like most people would rather shop in the mall,” he says.

Complete Nutrition opens Oct. 1.
