Mattress Hub to open at Westgate Market

WICHITA — There’s going to be a new addition to Mattress Mile.

That’s how Mark Barrientos refers to the stretch of West Kellogg where several stores sell mattresses. Next year, that will include his and business partner Ryan Baty’s Mattress Hub.

They’re going to open in a new 7,000-square-foot building in Westgate Market.

“They’re actually building a brand-new building for us right next to the Office Depot,” Barrientos says.

He says that area is a great mix of shops — including competitors — to be a part of.

This will make the fourth Mattress Hub in Wichita, including express stores at Towne East Square and Towne West Square and the new showroom on North Rock Road in the former Ethan Allen space.

The Wichita-based company is opening its 10th store on Dec. 26 in Manhattan.

“It was a great year,” Barrientos says of the company’s growth.

He’s got even bigger expectations for 2011 with a planned seven to 10 new stores in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is days away from signing for east-side space

WICHITA — Next to repeated Chick-fil-A questions — when’s it coming? where? — the next fast food restaurant we hear the most questions about is Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

When is the chain going to add an east-side Wichita location?

Answer: soon.

Franchisee Jeff Miller says he’s just this close to signing a lease.

The Five Guys in front of Lowe’s near 29th North and Maize opened in February.

Sources have reported several east-side sites Miller has eyed.

He reportedly looked at reconfiguring part of the former Ethan Allen space near Central and Rock, but that’s where Mattress Hub is now going.

Comotara Center at 29th North and Rock Road is another reported possibility.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Miller has focused on Rock Road.

So where’s the final spot?

Miller will tell us within days.

Mattress Hub to move into former Ethan Allen space

WICHITA — A prime piece of Wichita property is once again leased.

The former Ethan Allen and Drinnin’s Home Furnishings building at 416 N. Rock Road has been vacant since late 2007.

The Mattress Hub is now moving into the space with a 15,000-square-foot showroom.

The company “is getting ready to open the ultimate relaxation destination,” says Mark Barrientos, who is partners in the business with Ryan Baty.

“We feel like it’s one of the premier pieces of real estate in the whole city of Wichita,” Barrientos says. He thinks it “will give us real good visibility and easy access to our customer base.”

As Barrientos told Have You Heard? last month, the 11,000-square-foot Mattress Hub at Towne East Square will convert to a smaller express store.

Barrientos says the expanded new space on Rock will allow for more mattress models and the addition of bedroom sets, including special-order and custom-made furniture.
