Sunflower Title to open ninth location

WICHITA — Sunflower Title is opening another new location. This one — the ninth — is at 1907 S. Hydraulic.

“This is not a big office,” says president Richard Schodorf. “It just gives us more of a presence down south.”

The company also opened a location at the Waterfront at 13th and Webb Tuesday.

Sunflower has opened eight sites within the last 10 months.

“The market out there is phenomenal,” Schodorf says.

“The unfortunate thing and the wonderful thing about a recession (is) you have as an employer an opportunity to hire wonderful people,” he says.

“We’ve been so excited about the people we’ve been able to attract.”

He says the last four people he’s hired have a total of 32 years experience.

“We always tell other people, other businesses, you’ve got to think long term,” Schodorf says. “If you’re thinking about hiring people when the market turns around, they’re not going to be there.”

Steve Robl lands three new tenants for Barrington Place on the west side

WICHITA — The new year is starting off well for Steve Robl of Robl Construction, and it may bode well for others, too.

“I see just a general better attitude in real estate,” Robl says.

There are three new tenants for his Barrington Place on West 21st Street west of Ridge Road, which is where Red Bean’s Bayou Grill and Jason’s Deli are.

Sunflower Title is taking 1,800 square feet.

Wells Fargo Home Mortgage is taking 1,400 square feet.

And Advantage Partners, a real estate company, is taking 1,600 square feet.

“It creates a fantastic synergy having us three . . . next to each other,” says Advantage owner and broker Eric Henderson. “It’s just a fantastic opportunity.”

He says that area has a prime housing market, too.

“It’s such a great time to buy, which is one of the reasons we’re moving to that west-side location,” Henderson says. “As far as visibility, it just makes sense for us.”

Advantage will open there in early April and also keep its space at Office This at 4031 E. Harry.

Craig Burns forms Security 1st Title and buys First American Title operations in six counties

WICHITA — Last month, Have You Heard? reported that after three decades, Craig Burns left First American Title and had plans to open a new company.

He’s now formed Security 1st Title and, with partners, has purchased First American operations in six metropolitan Wichita counties.

Burns says that creates the largest title insurance company in Kansas.

“I’ve always dreamed of having ownership in a company,” says Burns, whose title will be chief executive.

“My mid-life crisis was quit my job and follow my dream,” says Burns, who just turned 50.

He isn’t disclosing terms of his purchase.

The 115 employees currently with First American Title will keep their jobs.

Officers include: David Armagost, president; Jennifer Weast, executive vice president and secretary and treasurer; and senior vice presidents Brandon Knowles, Glenn Edwards and Michael Brown.

Craig Burns departs First American Title to start his own company

WICHITA — After almost three decades with First American Title (including about 20 years when it was Security Abstract and Title), Craig Burns resigned earlier this month.

Burns had been the Kansas state manager for First American for about the last decade.

He’s not talking about his next move yet, but it looks like Burns is forming his own company, tentatively called Infinity.

More news on his plans should be coming in a week or two.
