Wichita Brewing Co. & Pizzeria owners on ‘serious’ hunt for east-side space

WICHITA — The owners of Wichita Brewing Co. & Pizzeria are looking for east-side space in earnest, but partner Jeremy Horn says it won’t be as easy as finding a building.

“It’s going to be tough to find a building that already exists,” he says. “We’re kind of more in the mode of finding land and building new construction.”

That’s because in addition to another pizzeria, Horn says the new space will be home to a 15-barrel brew house as well.

What Horn calls his “serious” hunt likely will take six months, he says.

Horn says he wants a 15,000-square-foot building, about 10,000 square feet of which will be for the brewing operation.

“We don’t have enough space to do it on the west side.”

The restaurant and a small brewing system opened in 2011 in the former Play It Again Sports space on the southwest corner of 13th and Tyler.

Horn says the business has done “really well.”

“I would never guess that we would be this busy and doing the sales volume that we’re doing.”

He says he’s just signed a 5-year extension.

The business currently does limited keg sales now through the House of Schwan.

“We haven’t decided whether or not we want to bottle or can,” Horn says.

Though he’s eager to do the larger-scale brewing, Horn says it will be important to get the restaurant established first.

“We don’t want to throw too many balls in the air that have to be juggled.”
