Genesis Health Clubs acquires two Ozark Fitness Centers in Springfield, Mo.

WICHITA — Rodney Steven II is at it again.

He’s added two more health clubs to his 28-year-old Genesis Health Clubs chain, this time in Springfield, Mo.

Steven has purchased his friend Dan Martin’s two Ozark Fitness Centers in Springfield.

“The clubs are so similar to ours,” Steven says. “It’s just a very similar marriage for us.”

This brings his total to 15 clubs in Kansas and Missouri, including five in Wichita.

“Dan’s been a good friend for a lot of years,” Steven says.

“He’s kind of an industry veteran. Warrior, actually,” Steven says. “He started out in just a little garage.”

AutoZone to open fourth Wichita store on North Rock Road

WICHITA — In February, Have You Heard? reported that El Agave Mexican Restaurant is moving from 3320 N. Rock Road to the spaces formerly occupied by Rock Island Cafe and Wazabz at 3236 N. Rock Road. That’s across from Hooters.

Now, it looks like AutoZone will be opening in the space El Agave is leaving. The Memphis-based company filed a building permit for that address.

AutoZone community relations manager Tracy Houston confirms the chain is opening a fourth store in Wichita and that it will be on North Rock Road, though she won’t confirm that address. Nor will she say if the company is building a new building or using an existing one.

“That is information we just don’t share,” Houston says.

She does say the average AutoZone store is 8,000 square feet, and Houston says the new store will employ 10 full-time and part-time employees.

“The goal is to have the store open late November, early December.”
