Terry Merrifield to close her Health and Healing practice

terryWICHITA — Family physician Terry Merrifield is retiring after May 30, but it’s not entirely by choice.

“I had hoped to go on a few more years,” says the 66-year-old, who owns Health and Healing at 9415 E. Harry.

“Everything about health care has become more and more complex,” Merrifield says.

Whether it’s the government, insurance companies or large employers, everyone seems to need more and more assurances that they’re getting what they need out of her office.

Merrifield says there’s “so much complicated paperwork and computer programming that doesn’t always work right.”

“It has taken more and more time away from my practice,” she says. “It’s just worn me out.”

Strip center to join restaurants along Ridge Road corridor

WICHITA — Restaurants aren’t the only new businesses that will be opening in the Ridge Road corridor between Kellogg and Maple.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers partners Scott Redler and Bill and Randy Simon also will be building a strip center on the approximately four acres they have along the corridor.

Have You Heard? this week reported that Abuelo’s will be opening at the northeast corner of Taft and Ridge Road, which is south of where Randy Simon has a Panera Bread next to a Freddy’s. There’s also a Twin Peaks under construction across Ridge Road.

Redler says he’s not sure how soon construction will start on the center. He says it depends on when the first tenant signs.

The 8,400-square-foot strip center will be to the north of Abuelo’s.

“We probably have room for one restaurant, and the rest would be retail-oriented,” Redler says. “We’re restaurateurs, and we want to make sure we have ample parking for all the restaurants. … Parking’s so critical.”

He says Freddy’s and Panera do well and will require some extra parking.

Redler says he thinks Abuelo’s will do well, too.

“They really do a great job,” he says. “I’m personally a big fan of (Abuelo’s) chile rellenos.”

Red Door Three opens as Nimlok dealer

WICHITA — Stacy Edmundson is back to selling Nimlok products for trade show exhibits, this time with her own new company, Red Door Three.

Edmundson used to be with another company selling Nimlok products before venturing into an unrelated business.

“I went a different direction and truly missed the industry,” she says. “It’s just very creative.”

She’s now an authorized Nimlok dealer. Nimlok is a global company that makes a variety of display products.

“Everything is pretty much a one-of-a-kind,” Edmundson says.

The bulk of her work will be with trade shows, she says, but she’ll also do some interior design. That could be such things as custom cabinets to show products in retail outlets.

“So many people know the Nimlok brand because I’ve already sold it,” Edmundson says. “It’s not just like a cookie-cutter kind of company.”
