Crust & Crumb Co. expanding in Newton

WICHITA — An expansion is reason enough to celebrate for a lot of businesses, but Sharon Entz has an extra reason to be happy.

She’ll soon have her garage back.

Entz has been running her 1-year-old Crust & Crumb Co. out of a certified kitchen in her Newton garage.

Now, she’s expanding to a 700-square-foot space at 507 N. Main St. in Newton.

“I’ve had a lot of success selling at the farmers market,” Entz says of the Old Town Farmers’ Market in Wichita. She also sells at a Newton farmers market and does wholesale sales to several retail outlets and restaurants.

“This little, tiny space wasn’t enough to supply the demand,” Entz says of her garage.

She makes artisan bread including baguettes, ciabatta and sourdough along with croissants.

The new space, which Entz hopes to have ready in April, won’t have a retail component.

“I am very happy with that arrangement having other people sell the bread and me do the baking,” she says.

Entz also owns the 700 square feet in front of her future bakery space, and she’s looking for someone to rent it.

Though she’ll also have an empty garage to fill, Entz isn’t looking to anyone else to fill it. She has her own plans.

“Yes, I’m very excited about that.”
