You don’t say

“My first place that I am not going to get married at is the Grand Chapel.”

– Sedgwick County Chairman Jim Skelton, whose upcoming marriage to Stacy Luke won’t take place at the facility he sued over his daughter’s wedding

“That’s correct, he’s not.”

– Grand Chapel owner Dennis Wilkie, who says Skelton is “a troublemaker, and I just don’t want to deal with troublemakers.”

Jerseys Grill and Bar temporarily closes due to lapsed liquor license, construction

WICHITA — Jerseys Grill and Bar near K-96 and Webb Road has temporarily closed due to a lapsed liquor license that was “just a mistake.”

“It was my fault,” says general manager Tim Hadsell. “I didn’t realize it’s a two-year license and just missed the renewal date.”

Hadsell is the third general manager for the 2-year-old Jerseys.

He says while waiting for the new license, which should come next week, he took the opportunity to do some remodeling that he’s been planning.

“We’ve been trying to get it done I’d say for the past month,” Hadsell says. “It never seemed like the right time.”

He says the business still had “a Johnny Carino’s feel” from when it was that restaurant, and he wanted to change that.

Firehouse Subs to open late this month

WICHITA — In September, Have You Heard? reported that Firehouse Subs is going to be opening in Eastgate Plaza at Kellogg and Rock. Now, franchisee Megan Reece confirms it.

Reece says she and her husband, Andrew, frequently visit her parents in Arkansas where they discovered Firehouse.

“We liked the experience, and we love the atmosphere,” she says.

She says the restaurant serves “high quality subs” in what she calls “a firefighter atmosphere.”

Reece says the company founders are former firefighters, and the restaurant’s decor is related to firefighting. Colors are red, white and black.

Though technically Firehouse is a fast-casual concept, Reece says its meat and cheese are steamed, so the sandwiches take a little longer to make. The bread is toasted, and vegetables are served cold on the sandwiches.
