Shine Salon to move to Sunburst Plaza

UPDATED — There’s a new tenant coming to Phil Ruffin’s Sunburst Plaza at 1725 at 1725 E. Douglas, which may be better known as the home of Tanya’s Soup Kitchen.

Shine Salon is moving into 2,500 square feet next to the former Integrity Auto Group space at the center.

“We’ve kind of been looking to expand, to grow our business,” says Val Sigg, who owns the business with his wife, Casey. “Our business has been fantastic.”

The salon will celebrate five years at 110 N. Hillside on March 18.

Currently, Shine has six styling chairs and eight stylists.

“We’re trying to accommodate 14 hair stylists at our new space,” Sigg says. “We are actively looking for … hair stylists to come work with us over there.”

You don’t say

“‘So let me get this straight. Everything in your house is for sale?’ And I looked over at my husband, and I said, ‘Well, right now he’s not, but that could change.’”

“Shipping Wars” features ‘Til We Meet Again

WICHITA — More than a year after filming, “Shipping Wars” aired footage of ’Til We Meet Again shipping a custom casket on Jan. 16.

Nathan Smith says he and business partner Traci Smith-Cone weren’t allowed to publicize the A&E show’s air date, but the episode will replay on Feb. 3.

Smith says the show shot more than three hours of footage but used only a minute and a half.

“It was a lot of fun doing it.”

The show didn’t use the ’Til We Meet Again name, but it mentioned Smith and Wichita, so people have found the store.

“We’ve had so many calls about it already,” he says. “You can’t pay for advertisement like that.”

It’s given Smith-Cone an opportunity to tease Smith, too.

“She’s said it’s always frightening to see me at 52 inches.”

Wichita Vending to be Premier Food Service

WICHITA — Almost a year ago, Wichita Vending purchased Wichita Canteen. Now, the company is changing its name.

It looks like Premier Food Service will be the new name.

That’s a name that Wichita Canteen has used for its food division.

Starbucks to expand at NewMarket Square

WICHITA — Starbucks is expanding its space at NewMarket Square at 21st and Maize Road.

No one with the company is sharing details, but April Reed of Slawson Cos. confirms it’s happening.

Starbucks, which has been at NewMarket since 2003, currently has 1,500 square feet. It’s expanding into the 1,475-square-foot space Cartridge World left last summer.

Slawson has done exterior work to get the new space ready for Starbucks.

“One of their concerns was that each of those storefronts had its own distinct look,” Reed says. “They wanted to make it look like it was one cohesive space.”

The coffee chain is now in the design and permitting phase.

“They’re shooting to open in May,” Reed says.
