Cathy Lauer’s CR Designs joins REB Boutique in time for its second anniversary

WICHITA — REB Boutique is celebrating the second anniversary of its location at 5333 E. Kellogg with an open house Friday, which also is when interior designer Cathy Lauer is having the grand opening of her new space there.

Lauer, who has been in the business for 17 years, has CR Designs. Her business has been in west-side space that has a lot of stairs, which she says isn’t ideal.

“This is more centrally located, and there’s no stairs,” Lauer says of the REB space. “It’s a great fit.”

In addition to having a sample room for fabric, trim and hardware, Lauer says she’ll also have inventory such as chairs, tables and rugs so customers can see the quality of the pieces she can bring to their homes or offices.

Cindy Kemp’s C K Salon also is still at REB, as is Cathy Stevens’ Timeless New art business. Stevens also does nails there.

REB owner Glenda Sue Morris says her event room at the boutique also is taking off.

“I just booked my first wedding,” she says. “I’m so excited.”

CVS to open at 21st and Amidon

WICHITA — For a company that so far is not discussing its entry into the market, CVS is awfully busy.

Since February, Have You Heard? has been tracking the activity of the Rhode Island-based chain of pharmacies in Wichita.

The latest deal to be finalized is for a store at the northwest corner of 21st and Amidon.

In July, the company was working on replatting property for possible stores at the southwest corner of Harry and Hillside and the northeast corner of Central and Oliver, according to documents filed with the planning department.

In August, CVS completed a deal for a store at the southwest corner of 13th and Maize Road.

Classic Real Estate’s Christian Ablah and his father, Don, represented CVS in the latest deal and for the store that’s coming to 13th and Maize Road.

Construction should start on the store at 21st and Amidon by the first of the year, and it should open by summer. The CVS at 13th and Maize Road is on a similar schedule but may open first.

Midwest Kia franchise may move to the southeast corner of Kellogg and Tyler

UPDATED — When Ford dealer Les Eck announced he was buying Wichita’s Midwest Kia franchise this summer, he said the dealership would “stay at its current location for now.”

“We’ll be doing something new in the future, the next year,” he said.

It looks like that time may be now.

The Oct. 4 agenda for the area planning board has a platting item for something called the KIA addition at the southeast corner of Kellogg and Tyler. The property is 6.71 acres.

The Kia dealership currently is at 6401 E. Kellogg, just across and a few blocks west of Eck’s Rusty Eck Ford at 7310 E. Kellogg.

When Steven Auto Group announced it was selling the Kia dealership to Eck, Steven CEO Harold Johnson told The Eagle his company was interested in selling because Kia wanted a new facility, possibly at a different location.

“After doing (a new) Toyota building, and Infiniti and Volkswagen before that, we said, ‘Let somebody else have that fun.’”

No one is commenting yet about possible new Kia space. We’ll keep you posted.
