WICHITA — Credit King Auto Sales is in the final stages of renovating a new superstore at the southwest corner of 31st South and Broadway.
“It was just big enough to house all of our locations to make a single-point dealership,” says president Bryan Sanders, who is partners in the business with Sam Bidwell.
“It’ll be much better.”
Sanders says the building was built in the ’50s for Don Schmid Dodge.
“We’re kind of staying with the style it was designed for in the ’50s.”
The building will allow for the 7-year-old company’s first showroom, where Sanders plans to showcase some classic cars, such as a ’57 Chevy and a GTO.
At almost 10,000 square feet over four buildings – and with what Sanders calls an entire city block for car sales – the new space will be quadruple the space of Credit King’s existing properties. Those include a main car lot at 4435 S. Broadway, a sales lot at 2305 S. Broadway, a sales shop for motorcycles, ATVs and scooters at 4309 S. Broadway and a service center at 333 E. 55th St.
The service department will be the first to move into the new space over Labor Day weekend.
There’s also a body shop and two paint booths already at the site.
“If everything’s in one spot, it’ll just make it much easier to get our vehicles ready,” Sanders says.
He says it makes more sense for customers who return for service following purchases as well.
With the move, Sanders says Credit King – which is known for in-house financing for just about anyone – will begin to offer conventional financing as well.
“We’ll be able to have newer, low-mileage vehicles,” Sanders says of the extra room.
Between that room and the “buy here, pay here” financing Credit King provides, Sanders says, “That’s by far the largest dealership of that kind of anywhere in the state.”
Look for a grand opening in November.
