WICHITA — JD. Hershberger is expanding his Hershberger Piano Gallery by moving it into its own space at Chisholm Trail Center – Outlet & Retail Shops in Newton.
Hershberger started his business in 1995 with tuning and servicing pianos.
“People would often ask me, ‘Where can I find a piano?’” he says. “I thought why not just provide … pianos for people?”
So seven years ago, he took the front lobby space at Bethel College’s Academy of Performing Arts at 123 E. Broadway in Newton to sell new and used pianos.
He’d like to show even more pianos, but he says the Academy doesn’t have more room.
“I was really interested in expanding,” Hershberger says.
So next week, he’ll move into about 1,200 square feet at Chisholm Trail.
Hershberger says he’ll add digital pianos – which are electronic keyboards that look like regular pianos – to the store along with accessories and printed music.
He says he likes that his store will now be on the growing south side of Newton with easy highway access.
The 2,500-square-foot bar-and-grill space at Chisholm Trail also is available for lease.
