WICHITA — Juarez Bakery owner Manuel Fernandez is opening a restaurant at 1064 N. Waco next to his 17-year-old bakery.
“They’re completely separate,” he says of the two businesses.
Las Tias, or “The Aunts,” will seat almost 60 and serve traditional Mexican dishes.
“Not Tex-Mex,” Fernandez says. “It’s going to be Mexican.”
Fernandez is naming the restaurant, which will serve beer, margaritas and possibly wine, for the women who will be cooking there.
“They’re aunts of one of my best friends.”
Fernandez says he’s opening a restaurant to go along with the bakery after all these years because customers constantly ask him to.
“Every day.”
Las Tias will open in early May.
