KinFolk Cafe to open in former Nifty Kitchen space at 1815 S. Broadway

WICHITA — A new restaurant is opening in the former Nifty Kitchen space at 1815 S. Broadway.

Susan Klaus and Lisa Shaw are opening KinFolk Cafe there in the next week or two.

The two plan homestyle cooking from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. six days a week. Most likely, they’ll take off Mondays, but they’ve not decided for sure yet.

Klaus says there will be staples, such as mashed potatoes, cinnamon rolls and brownies.

“Everything is going to be homemade as far as we can go with it,” she says.

There will be daily specials, such as ham and scalloped potatoes.

Klaus owned a deli in Leavenworth years ago. More recently she’s been working as a waitress.

“The tips aren’t very good,” she says.

Besides, Klaus says, “I’d rather be working for myself.”
