WICHITA — There are two new Boost Mobile stores in Wichita with two more on the way.
The stores sell Boost and Virgin phones and accessories.
The stores are owned by Wireless Lifestyle Prepaid.
District manager Ron Karn says the first new Boost Mobile store opened Wednesday next to the McDonald’s near Central and Edgemoor. The other opened Thursday at 4100 E. Harry.
The third new store will open Wednesday next to the Quiznos near the northeast corner of Maple and West streets.
Karn says one more store somewhere on South Broadway will follow.
There is a grand opening planned for the first three stores on April 2.
WICHITA — Overland Park-based Inland Truck Parts has purchased Wichita-based U.S. Machinery.
Gene Rich owned and operated U.S. Machinery for the last three decades.
Inland Truck Parts has operated in Wichita for about the same time.
U.S. Machinery repairs trucks. Until now, Inland sold truck parts but didn’t provide service.
In 1995, Inland started adding service shops to its 26 stores, which are in nine states.
The Wichita Inland shop is the 20th store in the chain to add truck service.
Inland still has its site at 1313 S. Young St. along with the former U.S. Machinery site at 1775 S. West St., which is now called Inland Truck Parts and Service.
“We will build a new facility and merge both stores together,” says general manager Dennis Bowers. “We’ll try to stay around where this customer base is to make it convenient for them.”
The former U.S. Machinery shop has 11 bays. The new shop will have at least that many, and they’ll be full bays that can hold a truck and trailer.
“It’s going to be a pretty big facility,” Bowers says.
Inland hired all 14 of Rich’s employees.
Rich, his wife and son aren’t staying on with Inland, though.
Bowers says Inland is looking for new property now, but he expects the process of finding a new location and building it to take about a year and a half.
WICHITA — Jamaica native and New York transplant Syreeta Bulgin has unexpectedly found herself in Wichita where she plans to open a downtown restaurant next month.
“It’s kind of a weird story,” Bulgin says of how she decided on Wichita.
She was looking for a business opportunity, and a New York friend who has a Wichita friend suggested they start a restaurant here.
“The other person got nervous and said they didn’t want to move,” Bulgin says.
She came anyway.
Her Onyx Bistro will open April 4 at 217 E. Douglas near Athena Jewelry.
“She’s bringing a real awesome flair to downtown,” says Istvan “Ish” Tamas of J.P. Weigand & Sons, who handled the lease.
Bulgin will serve Jamaican dishes along with a lot of other cuisine, such as Italian and Mexican dishes.
“It’s a combination kind of cuisine that I have going on,” she says.
Onyx Bistro will be open for breakfast and lunch six or seven days a week initially. Eventually, Bulgin would like to open some evenings, too.
She’s aware that several other restaurants have failed in that spot, but Bulgin isn’t concerned.
“I’m bringing something new,” she says. “I’m in a good spot.”
