WICHITA — The Medical Service Bureau has found a new home, albeit a temporary one.
Earlier this year, Via Christi Property Services gave the organization a 60-day notice to move out of its property at 1148 S. Hillside, where it’s been for about a decade.
The group is a nonprofit that provides low-cost vision care and prescription help to the uninsured and underinsured.
Builders Inc. has offered the organization new space at 1530 S. Oliver.
“They gave us a great price,” says Lisa Vayda, president of the Medical Service Bureau board. “They told us they’d love to have us as tenants as long as we want to.”
The group would like to buy its own building, though.
Vayda says the property needs to be centrally located somewhere close to downtown, be on a bus line and be handicapped accessible.
She says the building could be a large one that might also hold another service organization that would share or lease the space.
Vayda says the Medical Service Bureau, which will open at its new building April 1, probably will stay in that space at least through the end of the year before finding its own building.
“We’re going to have to do a capital campaign.”
