Bionic Burger to open a third restaurant

WICHITA — Bionic Burger is going to open its third Wichita restaurant in April.

The chain has signed an almost 10-year sublease for the former Long John Silver’s space at 6121 E. 21st St.

Bionic Burger also has restaurants at 660 N. Ridge Road and 2404 S. Meridian.

Raquel Chavez, daughter of Bionic Burger co-founder Steve Majors, says the space near 21st and Woodlawn is ideal, especially since it’s so close to Wichita State University.

In addition to dine-in seating, the restaurant will have a drive-through.

Troy Farha of Grubb & Ellis/Martens Commercial Group represented Bionic Burger in the deal. Brad Saville of Landmark Commercial Real Estate was the listing agent.

Chavez and her husband, Jimmy, are the ones adding the third restaurant.

They did a survey of their diners to find out where they should expand. The east side won.

“We had a ton of east,” Chavez says.

“We have people that actually drive from, like, Andover.”

She says some of them come once a week from that far.

“Man, that’s a long ways to drive for food, but that sure makes me feel good,” Chavez says.

The survey also indicated the Twin Lakes area would be popular, and Chavez also is considering the southeast area of Wichita.

“Our goal is to open a few more.”

The reason there is a large number of overweight people in Wichita is because there is too many hamburger joints.

  • imma_live

Come on RLBOH. That is like blaming the gun for killing people.

  • foodguy

Is that right RLBOH? I am not fat, and I like a good hamburger once, or twice a week. Bionic Burger also is one of the only places you can get a good buffalo burger (no fat). Get your head on right.

  • JLW7440

Ahhhh, ‘ol RLBOH had a right to his opinion. Only thing I find objectionable about his comment is he’s sticking his damn nose in where it isn’t wanted or needed. FAT isn’t good, most everyone knows that, but then ‘fat-between-the-ears’ isn’t good either. Live your own life, RLBOH and leave other’s to live theirs!

This is only good stuff for the ‘chain competitors’. As far as I am concerned, eating local, buying local is the way to behave when it comes to many things. The local stuff is so much better than the scientific, perfectly measured chain’s who cannot think of spending one more penny on one extra french-fry on your plate.

Just give me a place where they grab a handful of fries, grab an amount of burger by hand and cook it and no more frozen patties thrown on the grill, perfectly sliced and weighed by a machine.

Keep it basic and quit worrying about whether I get 1/100th more of an ounce in my fry or burger order.

Hooray for Bionic…………keep it local and basic…………….run the chains out of the East side.

As I was reading this while driving down the road, I was going to agree with imma, but my phone made me swerve into a McDonalds.

  • ksgbfan

Thank you Steve for finding a building on the east side. I live off of Ridge Road so we visit the Ridge and Central location often but work off of Webb Road and there has not been one on that side of town for a number of years.

  • aldenrw

“Close to Wichita State?” It’s over a mile away! Who’s going to walk that far? Oh, wait, I see. Everyone will drive. Silly me. I forgot about that law banning feet.

  • rocknrolltaz

    Bionic Burger is N A S T Y!

  • redcoalcarpet

@aldenrw, why walk? If you get in your car and DRIVE there like a normal person then it only takes 5 minutes to get there.

I’m looking forward to a NE Bionic Burger; very good burgers and excellent fries!

  • yourkidding

we walked in then out of the one on hillside or lincoln … where ever it is…

    the place was filthy

  • brian_nuevo

Bionic Burger has awesome burgers and fries! Not the healthiest maybe, but in moderation they are definitely worth it.

yourkidding: Harry, perhaps? Circa Mosley? Yeah, I drove through that one once. Didn’t go inside, but based on what the back of the building looked like, I can guess. Looked like no maintenance had been done in the past, oh, half-century. Whether it was filthy or not was impossible to tell, but it wasn’t encouraging.

It’s no longer a BB, though… so maybe it was a landlord problem?

  • Studemax

Bionic Burger has “honest” grease – love their fries!

  • aldenrw

@redcoal: You’re absolutely right. I’m abnormal. I like walking, therefore I must be certifiably insane. I should be out there driving while texting, like all the normal people. Can you recommend a good therapist for me? Or maybe a surgeon, so I can have my feet removed?

  • granada007

Man, I wish they would open one here in the wilds of Emporia…we have one, tiny, killer burger spot but their hours are flaky…C’mon guys, Emporia is a wide open market…(hint, hint, wink, nudge)…Whenever I am in Wichita I am all over Bionic…and, no, I’m not fat…

  • fishnfowl

I LOVE THE BURGERS AND FRIES,WHEN YOU EAT THEM THERE.TAKE OUT ORDERS USUALLY DISAPPOINT BECAUSE THEY SEEM TO ONLY GIVE YOU LONG AGO COOKED FRIES.BOTTOM OF THE BASKET,AND THE SHOP ON RIDGE ROAD IS NOT VERY CLEAN.IN SUMMER THERE IS DEAD FLIES IN THE WINDOWS.IT NEEDS A MAJOR UPGRADE.BIG GRIPE ALSO,THEY DON’T SERVE COCA COLA PRODUCTS.

  • bigmamma30

I love bionic burger. Wish they will come to the southeast side.

  • redfox19

I once ate 2 triples from BB in one setting; takeout. I then wiped my mouth with the American flag and layed on the couch for a couple hours. I’m not fat. God Bless America.

  • wwichita67208

I have eaten at Bionic Burger once… and got sick as HE##… I will never eat there again

  • David_Philpott

Bionic Burger is one of the best things about Wichita. As for making people fat, it’s not the burgers, man, it’ the forks! PLEASE! Everyone join with me in banning forks!

  • mopar

Do they still have the buffalo burger? Last time I visited the Ridge location, I didn’t see it on the menu.

  • http://www.muse-e-yum.com mytwocents

I wish them well, but I wouldn’t count on traffic from WSU. I agree with aldenrw that it’s not likely WSU students will drive specifically to get to a Bionic Burger over a mile away; if it were within walking distance, might be a good thing, but if they’re going to get into a car and drive, they’re likely to go any other number of places. Good luck, though, Wichita is full of fickle consumers.

  • WichitaWordsmith

Good luck to them. I’m not convinced WSU will give them much business, but the East side in general may prove successful.
