Susan Peters faints during KAKE, Channel 10, broadcast

WICHITA — You never know what’s going on behind the scenes at a TV news set.

Thanks to Larry Hatteberg’s cool demeanor and Jay Prater’s quick action, viewers probably didn’t notice the drama during KAKE, Channel 10’s 5 p.m. newscast Tuesday.

During a commercial break, anchorwoman Susan Peters started feeling funny.

“Is there something wrong?” she asked Hatteberg, thinking perhaps there was an earthquake since the room was starting to spin.

“I looked in her eyes, and I immediately knew something not good was happening,” Hatteberg says.

Peters grabbed Hatteberg’s arm.

They were about to return to the newscast, and Peters was supposed to have the next story.

Hatteberg took over instead, but he had to continue holding up Peters at the same time.

“I was afraid she was going to topple off the chair,” he says.

Wichita Pilates Group to move to Shops at Tallgrass, where Zeni apparel shop also will open

WICHITA — When two of Julie Long’s clients at Wichita Pilates Group had trouble finding appropriate clothing to wear during their training, they decided to start their own shop to sell some.

Now, Kim Dwerlkotte and Diane Lewonowski plan to open their new Zeni at the Shops at Tallgrass at 21st and Rock where Long plans to move her business.

Long has been at Central and Woodlawn.

“We needed more space,” she says.

Also, her space now is a bit hidden, she says.

“It needs a little more visibility,” Long says of Zeni’s retail business.

Wise & Associates to move to Market Centre

WICHITA — Michael Wise is moving his Wise & Associates, a health insurance brokerage firm, from the Orpheum Centre at First and Broadway just down the street to the Market Centre at First and Market.

Wise says the Minnesota guys sold his floor to an investor who defaulted. As a result, his lease is now month-to-month, and Wise wanted something more permanent.

Parking at Market Centre is attractive, Wise says, and he likes how active the owner is at the building.

Wise will move into 1,100 square feet early next month and will have an option to expand to 1,500 square feet.

Adam Clements of Grubb & Ellis/Martens Commercial Group handled the deal.

Good Fortune Chinese food coming to Maple and Maize Road

WICHITA — Good Fortune — the restaurant, at least — is coming to Maple and Maize Road.

Ricky Wang’s family, who already own a Good Fortune in Derby, plans to open a second restaurant at 10410 W. Maple in April.

Wang says the restaurant will serve mainly Chinese food, but there will be sushi as well.

Unlike the Derby space at 709 N. Baltimore, which seats 60 and offers a daily buffet, the new Good Fortune will be a carry-out restaurant only.

Impact Construction is finishing the new space.

Look for more Good Fortunes to open around the Wichita area in the near future.

New commercial development coming to 21st and Maize Road

WICHITA — There’s a new development coming near the southwest corner of 21st and Maize Road behind Bank of the West.

A group of as-of-yet unnamed developers are purchasing the former New Medical Health Care building, razing it and building a new 10,000-square-foot center for retail and restaurant space.

Last year, New Medical moved to 21st and Ridge Road by Braum’s.

The new development group will have a total of almost three acres and may build a second phase for offices.

There will be access to the development from both 21st Street and Maize Road, “which makes this an extremely attractive property,” says Cory Harkleroad, managing director of KW Commercial.

Harkleroad is handling the sale of the property and has already landed two tenants.
