No foolin’, Taylor Swift to play Intrust Bank Arena April 1

taylorWICHITA — Among the varied reactions to the Brad Paisley news yesterday — he’s the debut act for Intrust Bank Arena on Jan. 9 — one comment was: “They should have gotten Taylor Swift.”

Well, it looks like they have, though not until April 1.

According to www.taylorswift.com, she’s playing Wichita on that date. The site doesn’t list the venue, but indications are Intrust is it.

“We can neither confirm nor deny that Taylor Swift is performing at the Intrust Bank Arena,” says Beth King of King Merj Public Relations. King also is spokeswoman for SMG, which manages the arena.

Look for more news on Swift’s appearance soon.

In the meantime, take one of our polls here or here on the arena’s choices so far.

Another country act. It seems as though the booking agent is out to prove the detractors of the arena correct. Whats next? Having the brainiac who books the river fest contribute as well.

This should have been the opener, it appeals to a much larger crowd than Brad Daisey. I still wouldnt have gone because it is country, but this would have been much better.

I am a Wichita native, now living in Davenport, IA, and I recently saw Brad Paisley at the iWireless Center in Moline, IL, which serves the Quad Cities(about the size of Wichita.)It was an amazing concert and was sold out(seats about 10,000.) I am a huge Kenny Chesney fan,(also playes there every year!)and as awesome as his concerts are, Brad’s was even more entertaining! Expect a multimedia experience! The iWireless was visited by your officials in the planning stages of construction, so view their website to see what kind of acts you can expect..I think they will be similiar. And country music has one of the largest fan bases anywhere, so it’s a natural draw for promoters!

If they announce 15 rock concerts tomorrow some would cry because there isn’t a bluegrass band or a polka band. I guess they thought the Arena would only have their favorite artists and nothing else? This is another A List star coming to the Arena, and it doesn’t even open for another 3 months. What a great addition to Wichita!

As I’m reading the article, it’s still not even confirmed that she is playing the new arena – the title of the article states she is, then the article says her website doesn’t state a venue, and the spokesperson won’t “confirm or deny” it -

This is a good start. Like somebody else said, these are A list performers whether you like country or not. Even with free tickets I probably wouldn’t go see some country act. I will definitely go to a concert at the arena when they book somebody I like.

“Alice in Chains”??? You got to be kidding. They haven’t put out an album in years and their lead singer Laine Staley died of an overdose several years ago.

I would think this will have a better chance at selling out that Paisley for two reasons: a higher act and better weather. A several block walk isn’t bad in springtime weather; I am less sure in winter. Especially since the decision has been made to NOT fix the sidewalks leading to the Arena.

I think Taylor Swift would be awesome! She would appeal to a much broader audience. Kids love her, teens love her and adults love her! She may be country but they play her music all over the pop stations! She won a VMA award on MTV! Considering she’s country that’s HUGE!!!!!!!!!

We just saw Taylor Swift two weeks ago in Tulsa and it was a great concert! She puts on a great show and sounds terrific. We went to Tulsa becuase Wichita wasn’t on her schedule and we wanted to make sure we saw her. We will be going to this concert again depending on the ticket price. In Tulsa, tickets ranged in price between $45 for upper seats to $70 for front row. This did not include all of the various ticket charges so a $45 ticket ended up being $61 when it was said and done.

I must be getting old. I’ve never heard of Brad Paisley or Taylor Swift. That’s not to say they aren’t great choices, I’m sure they are. As long as they fill the arena, I’m all for it. Call me when a non-country, non-pop act comes to town, like Kings Of Leon. Most of the bands I listen to will never play IBA because they don’t have a following around here (Galactic, Phish, Dave Matthews Band, Wilco, etc., “jam bands”).

    Posted October 8, 2009 at 4:52 pm | Permalink

One more time, for the reality-impaired: you can’t book acts that aren’t touring, you can’t book acts that play stadiums for 50,000 into a 15,000 seat arena.

There are fewer acts on tour right now than at any time I can remember since 9-12-01. Walkie-talkie rentals to tours are down 70% for at least 1 Nashville supplier. I’m not defending the choice of acts, but right now the pickin’s be slim.

Selling out 3 Days Grace, Seether & Breaking Benjamin at The Cotillion is a far cry from selling out IBA; 2000 capacity v. 15,000.

My parting comment: if you want more shows to come to ICT, go to more shows NOW. Support for live entertainment encourages promoters to book more shows.

Areosmith, U-spew, the rolling bones? I would pay extra to see Taylor or Brad before being let in free to see any of them. And I hate country, and I like rock. But the rolling bones are especialy bad.

WSUShox1: For the opening show, they have the ability to book almost any act. Doesn’t have to be someone on tour right now. It’s your biggest show for the new arena, so spend the money and get an act to do a one time show. It happens. You just have to throw a lil money around.

For the rest of the schedule, ya, you are limited to who is on tour. And most of the big classic rock bands of the 70’s and 80’s did tours last year. Doubt they tour again this year.

Maybe the solution is to delay opening until Summer 2010, when better acts will be touring. Some people act like if the re-united and resurrected Beatles don’t open the arena in January that it’s doomed as a venue. Don’t worry…the arena’s not going anywhere in the next 6 months.
