Michelle’s Beach House owner to buy Delano bar

WICHITA — Michelle Borin of Michelle’s Beach House is in final negotiations to buy the Garage bar and grill in Delano.

In March, Have You Heard? reported that Borin and her son, Brandon, are looking to open a new nightclub separate — and different — from her Derby gentleman’s club.

The Garage opened earlier this year in the former John Barleycorn’s space at 579 W. Douglas after an extensive renovation.

Borin has met numerous times this week and last week with Garage representatives.

The deal is expected to close Thursday.

To forestall a probable line of comments: Delano’s overlay entirely prohibits “Businesses of an adult entertainment nature requiring a license under the Code of the City of Wichita, Chapters 3.05, 3.07, 3.56 and 3.74″ so I am reasonabily confident that the Garage is not turning into “Michelle’s Delano Beach House” anytime soon.

I figured that was a given when the article said she was looking to open something ‘different’.

LOL Pizza. I enjoyed many Sleepy Trucker shows at that place. I remember those bathrooms.

How long before it becomes a nudie bar?

mopar: Yeah, but “different” can still encompass a lot of things, and you know how the comments here can go. Not as bad as the Eagle-at-large, but still.

And Sleepy Truckers played the Garage last weekend for First Friday, FWIW.

    too bad…

And while I was typing it, “attitude” bravely went where no one who read prior comments had gone before. Heh.

newsletter: There’s certainly very sound historical precedent for it. But I’d insist on proper historical accuracy, including the Running of the Doves. Delano Park goes sadly underutilized, and I’m sure that would change.

Karen, Why are you itching for a fight? You’re so very judemental…you bore me. Michelle is a very wise business woman indeed.

I’d like to see Michelle turn it into a ‘bawdy house’ type bar. Not strippers but the kind of dancers you would have seen in old Delano a century ago. Too bad the state is so rigid on poker – that would be a good element too.

Michelle Borin is my hero. I hope she is successful! The Beach House is one of my nephews favorite places. You go girl.

noxema: Not really sure what you mean. (Judgmental? I just advocated, albeit tongue-in-cheekily, having nude women running through a park. On Sundays.)

bth: Hmm, but didn’t Rowdy Joe’s (the Old Town endeavor, not to be confused with the original Lowe Saloon) already try that? Given that I don’t expect The Garage’s theme to change, I think we’d be more likely to see car-show pin-up type stuff, maybe a tie-in with Eye Kandy and such. That’s been kind of the assumption all along, though. (And that does make me wonder if this sale hasn’t been part of the assumption all along, too. It makes a great deal of sense.)

Cool, I would like to see some hooters resturante style action in the downtown area! Nothing like service with a smile, Mit ein grossen balchon. It’s German, can you figure out what it means.

cracks me up that they call those gentleman’s clubs. nothing but low-lifes without a life and dope dealers is all that goes in those places.

And how do you know that? Mr ronknrolltaz, are you a frequent to these establishments, or are you stereotyping? You are one of thouse people that think homeless people, and underprivilleged people are low-live’s too. We can all see who you are on the inside. It is not very nice.

rocknrolltaz: You seem to be an authority on “these places”. What turns you on that you frequent them? I suppose all the shows in Las Vegas fall into your “low life and doper” category. No one forces anyone to attend. I suppose you want to ban bathing suits and volley-ball outfits also as there is a lot of skin shown!

So many of you are so quick to take offense to rocknrolltaz comment! Is it because as a frequent patron of such establishments you take his opinion personally? You don’t have to go into a so-called gentlemen’s club to know that the men who do go there are NOT gentlemen! A true gentleman have more respect for women than to enjoy that type of entertainment, even if sadly the women don’t have enough respect for themselves.

Obviously, she intends to turn the Garage into the adult entertainment version of the glue factory, where old nags who can’t get tips for show go to make 15% on a burger and fries.
It’s just around the corner from Larry D’s stadium, so the ‘Nuts can walk over after games. I think I’ll pass, though, my Gardesil vaccination’s not up to date.

LOL – good reading everyone. I agree with Karen – this is in the Historical part of Delano and staying accurate to history is essential. Which means the Doves have to actually jump in the river and bath!

Ha Ha looks as if the days of the fuddie duddies have come to a end. The young and evil are taking over, noooo run to the hills. Chill out people. This is a persons life you are shooting down. Who are you to judge? Michelle is a buissnes WOMAN, that makes her a minority in her field. And all you can do is stereotype her. I think you are all jelous of her success. Kudos to Michelle!! Good job, you go girl!!!
