WICHITA — Two new Braum’s stores are planned for the Wichita area, and more could follow.
One will be at 1261 S. Rock near Harry and Rock.
A source with Braum’s, who prefers not to be named, says that location will fill a void in the chain’s market area.
Braum’s will tear down the vacant building on the property, which has been a couple of different restaurants in recent years.
Once Braum’s has a building permit — and that can take several months — it typically takes four to six months to build a building depending on weather.
The Rock Road Braum’s probably won’t open until after one planned for Seneca near First Street just north of QuikTrip.
As Have You Heard? reported in May — though the company didn’t confirm it until now — Braum’s already is working on a building permit there.
The new stores will be similar to the one that opened earlier this year near 21st and Amidon.
That’s 5,756 square feet with a drive-through and a Fresh Market grocery area.
When the new Braum’s on Seneca opens, the one around the corner at 1220 W. Douglas will close.
The Braum’s source says the company is trying to eliminate older stores that don’t have drive-throughs.
There currently are nine Braum’s stores in the greater Wichita area, and the company continues to look at new properties to replace existing ones or add new ones.
