Schlotzsky’s and Cinnabon coming to Central and Tyler

schWICHITA — As expected, Ken Mechtley is going to bring a Schlotzsky’s to Central and Tyler.

“I’ve been looking for a west-side location for quite some time,” Mechtley says.

He’s going to bring a combination Schlotzsky’s and Cinnabon to the 2,300-square-foot space where Taco Bueno used to be on the northeast corner.

cinn1Focus Brands owns Schlotzsky’s and Cinnabon.

“A lot of the new stores are doing a co-brand now,” Mechtley says.

He already has three Schlotzsky’s restaurants in Wichita, three in Topeka and one in Lawrence.

“I’ll probably be looking at another location sometime next year,” Mechtley says of the Wichita area.

The new restaurant will open in mid-September.

Brad Saville of Landmark Commercial Real Estate and Doug Malone of J.P. Weigand & Sons brokered the deal.

L&M Schwinn to move from its longtime Rock Road location

bikeWICHITA — Gessler Drug Co., which is moving from Normandie Center where it’s been since 1965, isn’t the only Wichita business about to leave its longtime location.

L&M Schwinn is moving from 132 S. Rock, where it’s been since 1969.

The store, which will now be known as L&M Cycling and Fitness, is moving to 3590 N. Woodlawn behind Smashburger.

“I’m looking forward to being in this area,” says Marj Booker, who owns the shop with her husband, Lowell.

They’ve owned the store since 1989.

There’s a new owner at the building where the store is, and the Bookers have to move. But they don’t mind.

“We sure don’t,” Marj Booker says. “It’s going to be a marvelous opportunity.”

The Rock Road location will close at the end of this month, and the new space will be open by Aug. 4.

The Bookers sell Giant and Electra bikes and Schwinn fitness equipment. They also repair all types of bikes and fitness equipment.

Their new location will be close to one of Wichita’s big bike paths and near where they live in Bel Aire, which Marj Booker is particularly excited about.

“It’s going to be a walk in the park, so to speak.”
