Dyne Quik to reopen on North Broadway

dyneWICHITA — A year after closing, a new owner is making plans to reopen the Dyne Quik diner at 1202 N. Broadway.

“It’s tradition,” says Efrain Torres. “I used to eat there when I was a little kid.”

Dyne Quik is one of the city’s few remaining Valentine restaurants – metal, mobile diners that Wichita’s Valentine Manufacturing built between 1938 and 1971.

Torres says the restaurant’s previous owners had to close it because the building didn’t have proper restroom facilities. There was only one restroom, and it wasn’t handicapped accessbile.

He says he’s putting in two handicapped-accessible restrooms. Also, Torres says he’ll reupholster Dyne Quik’s dining seats “because they’re so old.”

Otherwise, he says, everything will stay the same.

Look for Dyne Quik to reopen late this year or in early 2010.

I use to eat there in the late 70’s and it was good from what I remember,BUT…the area has been taken over by less than law abiding citizens and I would be affraid to go there now without my pistol.

YAY! I ate there frequently right up until it closed. I will be glad to patronize it again!

If the food is still as good as it was I will eat there, when I get to the area. And I don’t need a pistol.

I agree loner. I find it amusing just how paranoid some people are.

I also frequent Doc’s a bit further north and Mike’s down south – have never had a problem

Was eating there three or four times a week primarily because of Glenda. The place had a “Cheers” type of atmosphere where everyone knew who you were even if they might not have known your name. Will definitely start eating there again!

If the food’s good when it re-opens, they need to get Guy of “Diners,Drive-ins, and Dives” back to town, and he’ll put a line out the door and around the building. Of course, then everyone will have to wait an hour to eat, so it technically won’t be a “Dyne Quik”.
