Proactiv kiosk coming to Towne East Square

WICHITA — It might not seem like a kiosk opening at a mall would be a huge deal, but there is one coming to Towne East Square that may be.

There’s going to be a new Proactiv skin care kiosk where customers can buy products much like they would at a pop machine.

They can select their products, swipe a credit card and walk away with them.

“It’s a pretty big deal to us,” says Towne East spokeswoman Tarasina Pack.

Proactiv customers who are used to ordering online have been asking for a store at the mall, Pack says.

“It’s really popular,” she says.

WICHITA — “My other thought was, can I bill a client for this?”

Ken White of Howerton and White, who paid off his Prius around 3 p.m. Wednesday and then worked until after midnight only to leave his downtown office, find his car severely damaged by hail and think, “This is what I get for working late.”

Secret Boutique to share Delano space with Eye Kandy Custom Paint & Pin-up Portraits

weddingdressWICHITA — Sara Locke, who is better known as Jade Locke in the art community, is joining her friend Aleycia Crawford to share space for a new business in Delano.

As Have You Heard? reported Wednesday, Crawford is moving her Eye Kandy Custom Paint & Pin-up Portraits to 915 W. Douglas in time for July’s Final Friday.

That’s also when Locke will open her Secret Boutique.

“I’ve been online,” Locke says. “Now I’m branching out into a shop.”

Her specialty is corsets.

“I make corsets for clients all over the world,” Locke says.

Some are for underclothing — and can instantly shave off 10 to 15 pounds, Locke says — and some are for outerwear.

“They’re coming back into fashion,” says Locke, who has been sewing and designing clothes since she was about 11.

She also custom designs nontraditional wedding gowns (that’s Locke in her own wedding gown that she designed).

Locke’s day job is as an insurance secretary, but she hopes to make Secret Boutique her full-time job.

“When the economy picks back up, yes.”

Dillons Fuel Center coming to 13th and West

dillonsWICHITA — Construction starts next week on a new Dillons Fuel Center at the Dillons at 13th and West. It will be similar to the company’s fuel center at 13th and Tyler and should be open by late summer.

“It’s all abut convenience,” says spokeswoman Sheila Lowrie.

The center will be at the southwest corner of the Dillons parking lot.

It will have five fuel pumps as well as a service kiosk that sells things like cigarettes, newspapers, lottery tickets and candy bars. There also will be vending machines.

A QuikTrip is located across the street on the southeast corner of 13th and West. But Lowrie says that’s not why Dillons selected this new location.

“Really, it’s about feedback from our customers,” she says. “It’s a convenience that our customers tell us they really enjoy.”

Lowrie says the fuel center will allow customers to easily redeem Dillons’ fuel-saver rewards while stopping off for groceries. That’s 2 cents off every gallon with a Dillons Plus Card, or 10 cents off a gallon if customers are part of the Dillons fuel-saver rewards program.

Lowrie says customers can shop, get their rewards for grocery purchases and “fill up right there at the store.”
