WICHITA — A banner proclaims that Yia Yia’s Eurobistro has a “concert cafe” on the patio at the former Cibola space at Bradley Fair, and that’s led to some confusion.
“That’s what’s causing so many people to think they have moved into the building or are going to,” says Karen James of Laham Development.
The banner, and the concert cafe, are only there for the duration of the Bradley Fair concert series (tonight and next Thursday are the last performances of the season).
Yia Yia’s is keeping its space on the north end of Bradley Fair, and Laham Development is in the process of finding a new tenant for the Cibola space.
“It’s the perfect restaurant space,” says James, noting the patio overlooking the plaza and lake. “It’s just made for a restaurant.”

“It’s the perfect restaurant space”
Cibola might disagree…..
I agree with Ms. James, it’s the perfect restaurant space. Cibola didn’t fail because of its location, it failed because the food quality in more recent times was inconsistent and not all guests were valued and treated with courtesy by management. Those with plenty of money who came often, yes; but those for whom Cibola was more of a special occasion destination, not always.
Exactly avid_reader, we raised our kids to be discriminating diners by taking them places like Cibola. So it was no surprise when my son wanted to take his prom date to Cibola a year ago and got rung out for over $120 for dinner for two! Needless to say we never went back again!
Hey, never said I was a Cibola fan, just sayin….
Actually, I used to really like the place, but KEEvin got a little full of himself, I think. I know he used to pride himself on turning people away who weren’t dressed to his standard.
Like any successful business, you gotta change with the times. I think Cibola was thinking they were in NYC or something, but the reality is that most Wichita diners are ’simple’ folk who would rather have a chicken fried steak. You want ‘em to eat that fancy big city food you gotta let ‘em wear their tshirts….
That being said, I’m glad I never saw a Jeff Gordon hat while I was eating there.
