Kwan Court to reopen Monday

Kwan Court will reopen Monday with an updated menu, new aquariums and decor throughout.

The restaurant at 1443 N. Rock has been closed for remodeling since late May.

Owner Kong Wong says there will be a combination reopening and Father’s Day celebratory buffet on Sunday, June 21, that will feature prime rib and a number of special seafood dishes, including baked king salmon and Alaskan snow crab. He says the restaurant’s updated menu features more seafood.

The new aquariums, which will form a circle in the dining room, will feature fresh water and salt water marine life, Wong says. There is new carpet and tiles throughout Kwan Court and new landscaping as well.

Also, from June 15 to mid-July, dinner guests will receive one coupon per table for a free appetizer to use on their next visit.

All Sports and Jocks and Jills to open east-side store together

wujockWICHITA — Sports memorabilia and apparel stores All Sports and Jocks and Jills are going to open an east-side store together by August.

“It didn’t make sense for both of us to be out here, so let’s merge and make one big sports store,” says Jocks and Jills owner Steve Drennan.

In anticipation of the merger, Drennan closed his Jocks and Jills at 3236 N. Rock near Buffalo Wild Wings about two weeks ago.

kujockDrennan and All Sports owner Randy Staub are considering three potential east-side sites and expect to make a decision soon. The new store likely will contain both store names “to make sure everybody knows,” Staub says.

Fairfield Inn and Suites coming to Maize

fairfieldWICHITA — Though there’s been no outward signs of progress, a Marriott-flag hotel is still coming to 37th and Maize.

“It’s definitely coming,” says owner Lindsay Olsen of Prairie Village. “Marriott has approved us for an 84-room Fairfield Inn and Suites.”

In November, Have You Heard? first reported a Marriott-flag hotel would be coming to the Wyn-Wood commercial development where Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, City Hall and the Maize Dialysis Center already are located and where Barn’rds has plans to locate.

But there have been no signs of it since.

“We are working on it,” Olsen says. “It’s just not stuff you see by looking at the lot.”

Olsen won’t share a timetable for development, but he says, “It’s a good brand for the Maize market.”
