Fire station, office park on planning agenda

WICHITA — There are a couple of items of interest coming soon before the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission.

Sedgwick County is seeking a zoning change from single family residential to limited commercial for the southwest corner of University and Tyler.

There’s an 8,115-square-foot decommissioned fire station there that the county hopes to sell.

Look for an auction through McCurdy Auction once the zoning change is approved.

One person connected to rezoning calls it an interesting piece of property in part because former fire stations are unique structures that are “solid as a rock.”

Sprouts still coming to Tuscan Village

WICHITA — Sprouts is still opening this summer in the new Tuscan Village at 1812 S. Seneca, but some people have driven past the site and wondered if there’s been a name change.

There hasn’t, though it may look that way. Inside the market and restaurant, it’s all one space. But outside, there are several signs along the exterior of the building indicating what’s inside. For instance, there’s a sign advertising things like nuts and bulk foods. Another says cafe vegetalien, which indicates that the cafe serves vegan food.

There’s no set opening date yet, but we’ll let you know when there is.

You don’t say

WICHITA — “It doesn’t look like all of you were bright enough to bring your own canopy, so I hope you brought lots of water.”

Locke Supply to move at least one location

WICHITA – Locke Supply at 1625 S. Rock is going to be moving to former grocery store space at Harry and Woodlawn.

A manager, who prefers not to be named, says the store is running out of room in its almost 10-year-old space.

There are several Wichita Locke Supply stores, which are wholesale suppliers of heating and cooling, plumbing and electric products.

Currently, the South Rock store has 18,000 square feet. The new space has 25,028 square feet.

The manager also says another one of the chain’s stores will be consolidating at the new store. Carter Marsh, president of the Oklahoma City-based chain, won’t comment on what’s happening yet.
