What better way to meet the folks of the expansive 1st Congressional District than a road trip?
Rob Wasinger, one of many Republican contenders to replace U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran in Congress, is planning a 69-county trip across the “Big First.”
“I look forward to building upon the tremendous grassroots support my campaign has received and can’t wait to bring my positive message of prosperity to the heartland,” Wasinger wrote in the announcement.
Netizens can follow their trip via the “Big Family, Big First” blog that his wife Meghan Wasinger will write. The couple have nine children who will be riding along.
“I hope the local ice cream shops in the ‘Big First’ are ready for a surge in business from my family,” he wrote.
Wasinger started his career in politics working for Gov. Bill Graves and eventually became the chief of staff for U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., who plans to run for Kansas governor in 2010.
Moran, a Republican and the district’s long-time congressman, has decided to run for U.S. Senate.
Three other Republicans have announced plans to run for congressional seat: state Sen. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler; Fort Hays State University education instructor Sue Boldra; and Pratt businessman Tim Barker.
