Who we are

Brent D. Wistrom has covered Wichita City Hall, state politics and breaking news for The Wichita Eagle since 2005. Before moving to Wichita, he was a projects reporter and Spanish publication editor at the Times Record News in Wichita Falls, Texas. He has been honored by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors and Kansas Press Association for reporting on campaign finance, traffic wreck trends, tornadoes and murders.

Dion Lefler has been a journalist since 1983. In addition to 10 years on the staff of The Wichita Eagle, he worked as a reporter and editor in Southern California, including at the Los Angeles Daily News and Pasadena Star-News. He has won the National Headliner Award and numerous state and regional honors for reporting on politics, government, business and economics.

Deb Gruver is The Eagle’s county government reporter. She has been at The Eagle since 1999 and has worked in Lawrence, Jackson Hole, Wyo., and Terre Haute, Ind. The Associated Press Managing Editors group honored her with a national award for a series she wrote about a hemophiliac infected with HIV because of tainted blood. She also has won numerous state and regional journalism awards in Kansas, Wyoming and Indiana for crime coverage, enterprise reporting and government stories.
