Sedgwick County commissioner Richard Ranzau says he wants to explore having some meetings at night to better involve the public in county business.
The commission now meets at 9 a.m. Wednesdays at the courthouse.
County Manager William Buchanan said he would put together a recommendation about night meetings. Commissioner Tim Norton said he didn’t think the courthouse would be a suitable place for a night meeting because having the courthouse open at night would require security, which would be an added cost.
Ranzau asked county counselor Rich Euson if he could have a town hall meeting at a church. He said he thought there might be churches willing to have a meeting there.
Ranzau said if the board doesn’t want to meet as a group some nights, he would be willing to have meetings with the public on his own.
