Pompeo
Republican Mike Pompeo holds a 10 point edge over Democratic State Rep. Raj Goyle, according to a new SurveyUSA poll of 538 likely voters in the 4th Congressional District.
Fifty percent of voters said they’d vote Pompeo; 40 percent sided with Goyle. With a 4.3 percent margin of error, that’s essentially no change since the polling company surveyed 604 likely voters a month ago and found Pompeo leading 49 percent to 42 percent.
The poll was commissioned by KWCH, The Eagle’s news partner.

Kelsey
TOPEKA – Sen. Dick Kelsey, R-Goddard, compared Kansas’ tax structure to a house that had been added on to over the years.
“It’s an alright home. It functions, you can live in it, but it is not like a home that has been designed to do what we do best and live in,” he said.
The solution, he maintains, is a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s tax structure, which he unveiled Thursday afternoon.
The highlights of his idea:
– Repealing the state’s corporation income tax, which would cost the state $255 million
– Exempting food purchases (although not food at restaurants-) from the sales tax
– Reducing the state sales tax rate to 5.3 percent, eliminating the three-year, one cent sales tax increase that went into effect July 1
– Taxing services and eliminating most sales tax exemptions, except for health-related services such as nursing homes and prescription drugs. Read More »
