With the primary election less than three weeks away, U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran has nearly $2.3 million in cash for his campaign for the Senate seat in Kansas, according to a report filed this week with the Federal Election Commission.
Rep. Todd Tiahrt, Moran’s chief rival in the Republican race, will announce the status of his campaign finances later today, campaign spokeswoman Michelle Schroeder said.
Moran’s campaign closed the second quarter on June 30 with $2.269 million in cash on hand. The federal report showed his campaign had net contributions during the quarter of $535,000.
Moran, R-Hays, spent $1.75 million in the second quarter.
Since his campaign officially began Jan. 8, 2009, Moran’s net contributions are $2.83 million.
At the end of this year’s first quarter on March 31, Moran had $3.48 million in cash on hand, including $2.4 million carried over from fund-raising during his congressional races.
