Whether Kansas Republicans nominate Todd Tiahrt or Jerry Moran to carry their banner in the upcoming Senate race, either one would have a strong lead over any of the three Democrats who have entered the field, a new poll shows.
The Rasmussen Poll shows double-digit leads for both Tiahrt and Moran in theoretical matchups against Sen. David Haley, D-Kansas City; Baker University Assistant Dean Lisa Johnston or communications executive Charles Schollenberger.
Moran outpolled all three Democratic candidates by about 60-25 percent.
The Democrats’ best matchup in the poll was Haley, 29 percent to Tiahrt, 50 percent.
Tiahrt versus Schollenberger polled at 55-30, advantage Tiahrt; Tiahrt outpolled Johnston 57-29.
Undecideds and supporters of other candidates ranged from 14-20 percent in all the matchups.
The results, Rasmussen noted, are not especially surprising since Kansas hasn’t sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1932.
The survey of 500 Kansans identified as likely voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
