The Wichita Kennel Club asked Sedgwick County commissioners this morning for a commitment to keep the pavilions at the Kansas Coliseum open so it can continue to hold its Sunflower Cluster Dog Show there.
The county has agreed to keep the pavilions open through next year, but their future beyond that is uncertain. The county has mothballed Britt Brown Arena at the Coliseum complex.
“Our longest show site home has been the Kansas Coliseum,” Wichita Kennel Club corresponding secretary Pat Deshler told commissioners.
Board member Milli Dold said she has to hire judges three years out, so a multi-year commitment about the pavilions is necessary.
The Sunflower Cluster Dog Show rates as one of the five top dog shows in the country, leaders told commissioners.
Commissioners did not make a decision about the pavilions’ future.
