Former Missouri Sen. John Ashcroft, once one of the country’s leading conservatives, has endorsed Rep. Todd Tiahrt in his race for the Senate in Kansas.
“Conservatives across this country are yearning for principled conservatives in Washington,” Ashcroft, attorney general under former President George W. Bush, said in a statement. “I feel strongly that Todd Tiahrt can help provide that common sense conservative leadership in the Senate.”
Tiahrt is seeking the Republican nomination to the seat being vacated next year by Sen. Sam Brownback, who is running for governor. Kansas Republican Rep. Jerry Moran is also seeking the seat.
Ashcroft, a former Missouri governor, served one term in the Senate. He also explored a run for president prior to the 2000 campaign.

Not that surprising really. For all his faults, Moran was not a supporter of the post 9/11 assualt on the US Constitution by bush/cheney that Aschroft enabled. Moran most likely doesn’t have the support of the national GOP, that Tiarht may have, is so that doesn’t bode well for either Moran or the US. I do hope a moderate Republican ruins the primary for both Jerry,and Todd. Meaning the US would be rid of Jerry, Sam, and Todd, all are unimaginative place holders. The bad news is Kansans most likely will be left with Sam here too close to home
Todd Tiahrt has exposed himself as a right wing nut that has aligned himself with Club for Growth, Sara Palin, and Dick Armey. Tiahrt believes that he has been chosen by God to be a powerful Senator. God is not that stupid.

It’s interesting that the “librul Wichita Eagle” failed to point out that John Asscrock was a one term senator from Missouri because he lost his re-election to a DEAD MAN.
In 2000, Mel Carnahan was killed in a mysterious small-plane accident one week before the election. Too late for Democrats to run someone else, and too late to change the ballots. John Asscrock was such a despicable individual that Missourians actually voted for the DEAD GUY over him. What does that say about him? Would you want him endorsing you?
Naturally, after losing to a corpse, the lying criminal George Bush appointed him to be the US Attorney General. Upon taking that office, he annointed himself with oil, and draped curtains over statues in the DoJ.
