Already bought and paid for.
She will give Michelle Bachman a run for her money on Olberman’s show.
The builders have really hurt the City of Wichita through their City Council Member Paul Gray.
And the Eagle wonders why people don’t take it seriously anymore.
Did you check any sources for this?
Even one?
Any reporter there? Anyone?
When lots of other people know what’s going on and the “news”paper doesn’t, why should people bother to read the paper?
You’ll find out at 2pm, but a journalistic orgnization with reporters who were hustling and cultivating sources wouldn’t make embarrassing mistakes like this.
Man, you are waaay off.
Goodness, this paper has gone downhill…
RE: Howserfan Source is Wagle’s campaign. We’ve reported several times in recent months that Wagle was examining a run.
Please let us know why we are “waaay off.”
Brent, I regard you as one of the best the Eagle has. I encourage you to ask yourself if you’re making an assumption. I read the news release and it is worded in a neutral manner.
RE: lets_get_real: You’re right. It is neutral language. It could be that she’s bowing out, remains undecided or something else. Perhaps I worded it too strongly. But, still, I say it’s an indication she’ll enter the race because, in my experience, candidates typically issue a simple e-mail release to say they’re not running and hold press conferences to say they are running. But, as we know, there are few rules in this aspect of politics. We will have a reporter there to confirm one way or the other.
Really, it has come to this?
Thirty minutes before the announcement of what’s actually going to happen and you don’t know?
You’re reduced to asking openly on a blog?
Good reporters find stuff like this out before it happens.
RE: Are you saying you’re making your best educated guess?
Two minutes before the event and the headline is still what it has been all day:
“Susan Wagle to announce Congressional run today.”
This passes for journalism at the Eagle.
Five minutes into the event…
“giving a pretty clear indication she’s entering the race…”
tick…tick…tick…
When will they update the paper to reflect facts? Will they do it here or post something new hoping no one notices? Will they acknowledge getting it so wrong for so long?
When will the editors notice or care that their reporters are making this up as they go?
Why is the Eagle losing readership?
Why is McClatchy stock doing so poorly?
A fourteen year-old could have updated her Facebook page by now to get it right.
“Susan Wagle to announce Congressional run today.”
Still there, right on the front page.
Just released: Wagle to Forgo Run for Congress
Cites need to fight tax increase attempts in legislature; endorses Mike Pompeo for Congress
State Senator Susan Wagle announced today that she will not be a candidate for Congress in the open fourth Congressional District seat.
After addressing concerns about her health and recent battles with cancer, Wagle indicated that she has been given a clean bill of health just two weeks ago. “The big C has a way of refocusing people.? Cancer patients tend to evaluate how best to make the most of every moment they have left, whether it is 10 days or 10 years.? Through this experience, I have decided my time and my political expertise are best spent here in Kansas.? I am here today to announce I am not a candidate for Congress,” Wagle stated.
First elected to the Kansas House in 1990, Wagle ran for the Kansas Senate in 2000 and is now serving her 3rd term in the State Senate.
“I value my position as a senior State Senator in a small group of 40.? Kansas is facing a budget crisis unlike any crisis we have faced in recent history, and it would not be right as a leader of the conservative movement to walk away from an economic downturn, or for that matter, even divert my attention away from the needs of Kansans, when the headlines in our newspapers are about our Governor considering a tax increase,”?Wagle continued.
“I firmly believe that both the State of Kansas and our Nation stands at a crossroads. Both governments might be successful at increasing taxes, increasing bureaucracy and the control government exerts over our lives in the next few months. ?I am personally committed to do everything possible to prevent that from happening,” Wagle continued.
“Today we have several candidates who have announced their candidacy for the Republican Primary. Two of those candidates I serve with in the Kansas Senate. ?Let me be clear, I am not here today to say anything disrespectful, negative or derogatory about any individuals in this race. I have an excellent working relationship with my colleagues and they deserve and have earned my respect, and the respect of many others,” Wagle said.
“However, for the daunting task that lies ahead in Washington, we need someone who stands out above the crowd. ?Someone who will be recognized instantly as a leader. Someone who has the ability to guide and influence others on our behalf, who has inner strength, and strong convictions.? We need an individual who cannot be swayed. ?I have watched closely the developments of this race, and there is one person who has the credentials, the stamina and energy we need to serve in Washington. ?His name is Mike Pompeo,” Wagle continued.
“Mike Pompeo has my full support for his candidacy for Congress and I hope that voters who agree with my values and my voting record will join me in supporting Mike Pompeo for Congress,” Wagle concluded.
