During the second presentation today from groups interested in redeveloping the Kansas Coliseum, Kelly Parks warned a speaker that his time to talk almost was up.
Greg Ferris of Heritage Development Group then noted that the commission gave North American Management-Kansas 26 minutes to make its presentation this morning.
Parks then said that he already had given Heritage more than the 15 minutes allowed.
He then picked up his gavel and shook it from the bench, as if reminding Ferris who was in charge.

Well, well now….If the Commission had previously allowed the group 26-minutes to make their presentation, and the gavel genius Parks admonished them for being over 15-minutes, are we then to believe this is another example of Parks not being aware of Agenda notes and that which was decided on before the presentation was made? Hmmmmmm…is this feller suffering from some form of demensia or is he just playing God? He appears to be hard-at-work establishing a negative profile on himself. I know where another Commission election vote of mine will not be.
Ferris is as shadey as they come, I don’t trust anything that has his name on it, not since his Major money making deal selling the ladfill fiasco land to the city years ago. Don’t trust him ,,,at all and would never support anything that has his name on it. He always shows up when the private sector is trying to make money from a gov’t entity, like a year ago when he showed up representing a company getting permission to put cell towers in firestation lawns,,,,that one passed too if I remember right.
This guy is drunk with power. First he removes a sitting commissioner from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (in direct violation of a resolution HE SIGNED HIMSELF a year ago). Now he’s waving the gavel like it’s a hot dog looking for mustard. That’s not just showboating. That’s political arrogance rarely if ever seen at the local level.
For a topic as important as this one, you’d think Parks would take each presentation seriously. The least he could do is fake an interest in the county’s options for the Coliseum.
For someone who fakes being a county commissioner so well, it shouldn’t be that hard.
Well all I can say is congrats to the North American group as this proves the decision has already been made and the Parks wanting this to go to the Public is just as fake as he is. Hopefully one of these days we can get a real commissioner…
Looking at the 2 Proposals they both have good ideas, however If the Heritage group can pull off the Rodeo Idea, I think it has the best chance of surviving. Until Wichita and the Surrounding communities grow more into that area the North American option appears to be a Huge Money Sink. At least the Rodeo idea would follow the theme of the Amusement Park.
I think Wichita needs to lose its fixation on the wild west theme anyway. Nothing with the western theme is popular any more…and Wichitans just couldnt care less about that heritage.
If the wild west theme were going to be embraced by Wichita , then the Wild West World theme park would have thrived. He built it, nobody came….same as with just about every expensive venture Wichitans have ever aspired to.
I believe the downtown casino was Wichita’s last chance for a cash cow. We all know how that went. Instead they end up with one more colossal flop…WaterWalk.
I think Wichita is one step from bankruptcy.
I trust Greg Ferris. He will identify what a person or groups real interest is.
