Barnett to announce health care coalition Tuesday in Wichita

TOPEKA – State Sen. Jim Barnett is scheduled to announce his Congressional campaign’s Health Care Coalition Tuesday in Wichita.

“As a citizen and a doctor I have major concerns about the direction the health care debate in Washington is heading,” said Barnett, R- Emporia, in a press statement. “A personal principle of mine is to work towards solutions rather than complaining about the problems.”

The coalition will include health care professionals who will advise his campaign and suggest solutions to health care issues at all levels, the statement said.

Barnett will announce the coalition 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Medical Society of Sedgwick County, 1102 S. Hillside.

He will hold a similar announcement later in Emporia. The second announcement will be 6 p.m. at Newman Regional Health 1201 W. 12th Ave., Emporia.

Barnett is one of several Republicans running for the 1st Congressional District seat. Republican Jerry Moran, who currently holds the seat is leaving to run for the U.S. Senate seat that Republican Sam Brownback is leave to run for governor.

Other Republican candidates for the slot include state Sen. Tim Huelskamp of Fowler; Tracey Mann, a commercial real estate seller from Salina; Rob Wasinger of Hays, former chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback; Sue Boldra, a Hays educator; and Monte Shadwick, a former Salina mayor.

    HEY SENATOR BARNETT -

When you were running for governor, you did absolutely nothing to expose the influence peddling at the regulatory licensing boards (Board of Healing Arts, Behavior Science Board & Office of Attorney Discipline) Instead of running for US Congress or Governor, how about doing something constructive like exposing corruption even if it costs you campaign funding from attorneys & doctors.

The problem with Republicans is they want to shut the barn door after the horses are out

The problem I have with my health insurance is that they want to override all the prescriptions my Doctor writes for me. I have had reactions to all the generics they have made take in the last 2 years. If fact, I just had the latest one last week, my Doctor gave me the script for the brand name and insurance refused to pay for it, so I paid full price. It was working wonderfully but to get the refill partially paid for, I had to try the generic. One day and I have been broken out with a rash for a week, so now I am without any medicine for the pain because I can’t take the “real” one until the effects from the generic are gone. I will have go back to the Doctor and pay another office call copay, get another drug to countact the generic and pay the copay on it. It’s a vicious circle.
