In arguing against bill that could open the door for Washington D.C. city officials to help single, low-income women get an abortion, Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, asked the U.S. House to consider whether such “incentives” might have led President Obama’s mother to get an abortion. He asked the same about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Rep. Jose Serrano, D-New York, said the bill bans federal dollars from being spent on abortion. But, he said, it gives the D.C. City Council the option to use local dollars. (More on that from The Washington Post.)
Here’s a short clip of the C-Span video.
Here’s a longer version:

I wonder how Todd would feel if someone asked a similar question about his son who comitted suicide?
Tiahrt is of POC and always has been. See just how DESPERATE that clown is for publicity. He knows he’s in DEEP trouble in the next election and his pathetic career is just about over.
Maybe Boeing doesn’t want you either Todd…..
And all this from a man who is a member of a “want to be” secret cult (The Family). Who has members like Sen. Ensign, (Cheating on his wife with a co-worker) an Gov Sanford (Cheating on his wife with someone he meet on the street in Argentina). Who Tiahart ask’s advice from on what to do. Rev. Coe. All this from a man who believes in a higher power. (The ulta rich) And does what they want and not what the people who elected him. So I wonder who tiahart is cheating on. His wifw. The people who elected him of The Family. I would say the first two. Maybe his mother might of wished it know.
I feel deep fear here..Yes you should fear; But Obama NATION!!
wow dude fvck him! calling out our own president… wooooooooooow
Why does he assume that he/congress know how an individual woman will act or re-act? Why is it their moral choice to make for her?
It’s an excellent question. Also hidden in Obama’s CommieCare bill is taxpayer funded abortion on demand. While libs are wringing their hands at someone asking the obvious, they should ask themselves how many potential discoverers of major advancements of mankind have they cheered on to the slaughter houses.
Tiahrt must have eaten a big plate of stupid for dinner.
This man makes no sense. What is the purpose of the rant that he just gave today and why did he feel it necessary to spew his hatred at the President. I hope this was the nail in the coffin of his senate run. He does not deserve to win and needs to be sent back to Kansas. This was just really really stupid.
This only leads to additional stupid questions regarding mass-murderers that I will not pursue, because it’s STUPID!
Let’s talk about Todd’s mama!!!!
Watch the video and listen to the sounds in the background when he spews his hate toward Obama.
You just flat out SUCK Tiahart, always have, always will.
He isn’t smart enough to realize that what he said is insulting. He assumes that Obama’s mother wasn’t able to make up her own mind about having a baby. He also assumes that she didn’t want Obama, but had to go through with the pregnancy because she could’t afford an abortion. That’s ludicrous. He has no idea why women decide to have abortions and it’s none of his business anyway.
How can Goddard divorce themselves from this #@$@#$?
Good point bth – how would he feel if someone suggested his young son may have been aborted if they could have afforded it OR maye the son didn’t want to be in the fmaily at all. All of this is really ugly and someone needs to let Todd know how offensive his statements have been today. Quite frankly I am surprised he has made these awful statments. His colleagues are trying to get him to oapologize which he needs to do.
Can we say, pandering to the right??? when will these repukes figure out that going right is the WRONG direction???
I’d like to commend Todd Tiahrt’s statement, because maybe now we Kansans can finally retire him in the upcoming Senate primary. Also, I’m glad he’s harkening back to his former days as a Nazi youth. Of course, that’s just hyperbole, just like Tiahrt’s statement, right? Keep on pandering to that ever-shrinking base of yours, Tiahrt!
That Tiahrt, he’s all class. Even used his son’s suicide as a means to raise some campaign cash. He knows that if he just goes with the typical Republican talking points he’ll glide to victory as there are plenty of gullible people willing to cast a vote for a snake oil salesman.
I question his 70% of Americans remark and also his allegiance to a cult that believes in trickle down evangelism in order to place the chosen few in power who would then dole out rewards according to their vision of what America would be like. Tex is exactly right.
Speaking of death cults. I see there are plenty of adherents posting here in a paltry attempt to assuage their guilt, and it isn’t working. Worshiping the dead is no way to go through life. Which by the way, y’all need to get one.
God bless Tiahrt
Do they do abortions in Kenya?
Well of course he got one thing right didn’t he? Only Black and poor women abort their Black babies. Was he right?
writerdog Posted July 17, 2009 at 9:26 pm | Permalink Well of course he got one thing right didn’t he? Only Black and poor women abort their Black babies.
That was the goal of Planned Parenthood’s founder. “The minister’s work is also important and he should be trained, perhaps by the Federation as to our ideals and the goal that we hope to reach. We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.” – Margaret Sanger The Negro Project 1939
Tiahart is refering to the fact that those who can i’ll afford to care for a child would have an out/easier way to resolve the issue by abortion!
Since Our President is the Great Minority and comes from the low income side of the tracks, simple question is would we not have Our President today if this were an option for his low income Mother before he was born?
As for his Son’s unfortunate suicide that has nothing to do with goverment funding of one’s taking their own life!
I support neither party; However I cannot see how one would point out such an unfortunate loss of a Family.
Should we bring up Our Presidents former past with His drug usage?
I would say I’m disappointed in him, but, then again, he is Todd Tiahrt. Not only is he as stupid as ever, but he’s obviously pretty flustered. I can’t believe he’s been my federal rep since I was 14.
What bth said: getting personal by entertaining a hypothetical about someone’s deceased mother is at least as bad as, oh, I don’t know, speculating about the role that one’s parenting might have played in a young child’s suicide.
Todd Tiahrt would do well to extend the same courtesy that others showed him when after his son, Luke, committed suicide. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”–but I guess that’s just for the “little people” who aren’t members of Doug Coe’s “Family.”
When viewed, Toxic Todd’s low, low blow is off-putting in the extreme. Patronizing, insincere, hateful–way to look senatorial, dude! Todd tries to bring the hate like it’s still 1994, and cuts a big fart. Totally deflates any positives coming from Jim Ryun’s endorsement.
On a less farcical note, I wonder how many children in the United States died for want of medical care between the time of Tiahrt’s two votes against SCHIP (State Children’s Health Insurance Program), which enabled George Bush to veto it, and February of this year, when President Obama signed SCHIP into law?
I thought Obama had been
Absolutely disgusting. Tiahrt is an embarrassment and his party should be mortified they ever voted him into office…
What’s great is watching Rep. Jose Serrano take Tiahrt down over the GOP’s cynical denial of self-determination to the (predominately African-American) citizens of DC, in order to score points with the (predominately white) voters back home. “Colonialism”–amen to that.
Of course, “colonialism” being a five syllable word, it may have gone over Toxic Todd’s head.
Perhaps Todd was just wishful thinking. If so, 49% of all Americans share the view.
“Maybe Boeing doesn’t want you either Todd…”
NOT if he’s 45 or over… too old for boeing and spirit.
HE SOUNDS LIKE SARAH PALIN NOW.
GOOD MOVE…
YOU BETCHA !!!
republicans are big haters.
ask all the dead kids in iraq.
no wait ask their parents.
49% of the dead kids in iraq wish they were still alive.
You know what, TODD… there are many Americans AND KANSANS (me included) who don’t believe that our elected representatives should tell us what is moral… we all have our own beliefs about that.
History has demonstrated that a nation CAN NOT legislate morals… it NEVER works…
When something is made illegal, people flock to it…. look at prohibition as an example. Look at your (Republicans) WAR ON DRUGS… it simply doesn’t work.
Why can’t you use a carrot instead of a whip?
Oh… because you want re-elected…. DUH!!!
You will NEVER be a senator from Kansas… or I will certainly move to another state.
Your FAITHFUL constituant, Jim in Wichita, Kansas
Silverdire, Many Kansans are MORTIFIED that he speaks for us.
I can’t even imagine him as a Senator, although, there are many Kansans who will vote for him, unfortunately…
I wish somebody would SMACK these RELIGIOUS RIGHT-WINGNUTS and tell tham that they CAN NOT speak for anyone but themselves…
I don’t give a damn that he’s Kansas’ elected representative, he’s STILL an ignoramus, and I don’t agree with his agenda.
I will work with (and donate $$$ to) anyone who can get this CLOWN out of congress… CALL ME!!!
Wouldn’t it have been different if his mother had been pro-choice, and had other things to do instead of bringing him to term??? That would have saved Kansas a lot of grief…
Can you tell that I don’t have much use for this “man”?
oldkansan, What makes you think that Kansans want him back? I’d rather he step in front of something MASS-TRANSIT, which would be so ironic, since he is SO AGAINST public transport…
Mr. T doesn’t care about me (a legitimate constituent) because I am not a religious right-wingnut. Unfortunately, most of Kansas is filled with this sort of people… compare Rep. T with Phred Phelps… cut from the same cloth… HATERS…
Get over it TODD… everyone does not have to fit your mold.
Kansas can be BETTER than YOU!
(actually, Kansas IS better than you… you are a poor representative of our Kansas values)
Silverdire, KANSAS is already sorry we sent him to Congress… well at least SOME OF US are… We need to trash Brownback, too… and Roberts is certainly a potential problem, too…
Why do Republicans hate so much??? I simply don’t understand…
tiart sucks big donkey duck, typhical right wing hater, MR Morals himself,
This is the typical kind of Politician we need to weed out of Topeka. There are to many Jack a’s in Office and we need dedicated people. Using our time to bad mouth the Presidents family is 100% unexcusable. I have some personal views on alot of people. I don’t direct any of those views on their families. That is bold face chicken s–t, bull s–t. Sorry for the language. if you click on my name above, my website pops up. Herbert West 3rd, Candidate for Kansas Governor, 2010.
I also noticed he also commented on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. He called out to black politicians during the NAACP 100th anniversary. I consider that to be a “HATE CRIME IN ITS NATURE”. Herbert West 3rd, Candidate for Kansas Governor 2010. Again, click on my name above and my website pops up.
@ Herbert – all fine and dandy, but Mr. T-hole isn’t in Topeka.
Tiart shouldn’t impose his religious morality on others, and my personal belief is that his son’s suicide was the result of the son’s feelings that he couldn’t live up to daddy’s strict moral code. Regardless of reason, I was saddened to read of the incident. Todd may be a Class A jerk but I’m sorry his son died.
Tiart needs to go. We need fresh, moderate thinking in Washington to reflect the kind of people Kansas has been noted for: tolerant, open minded, and fair. Under the faux leadership of guys like Todd, Kansas would have entered the Union as a slave state.
nice, Todd
You know, all this bashing of Todd Tiahrt, we should stop and think “why did he say that?” I think its a question all pro-choice people should stop and ask themselves. What if I was aborted? It might put some kind of perspective on how precious life is. How many people have gone into deep prayer asking God for an answer? Such as a cure to cancer or a cure for this or that. All God has to say is “Look, I’ve tried to send you the answer many times, but you keep killing it.” We say we are a christian nation, but really are we? We don’t do what scripture tells us to do, we do what we want to do. Thats how Obama got into office. I agree that government can’t impose morals on us, but government certainly should be the example setter (which they haven’t) If a person makes the choice to have an abortion, government certainly shouldn’t pay for it. People don’t want to admit it, but the United States is officially bankrupt and a government run health care system will without a doubt seal our doom. In closing I certainly don’t think Todd Tiahrt is perfect and has become a “politician” like all the others in Washington.

Abortion is mostly illegal in Kenya; “Abortions are banned in Kenya unless the procedure is necessary to save the mother’s life. However, over 300,000 Kenyan women undergo backstreet abortions every year, say human rights groups, and at least 2,600 of them die as a result of the often dangerous procedures.”

Following Todd’s argument, America would probably be cursed with George and Grace (mccain and palin) in the W.H. Palin would’ve been peering over the Grim Reaper’s shoulder, trying to see if he had mccain on his list. We’d all be screwed! Brownback gave us the Snowflake embarrassment, this is Todd’s attempt to follow in his shoes and show he has the right stuff.
To: HonestObserver, HonestObserver=?????????? Spam is only giving a website or e-mail with no comments, and the comments don’t relate to the article. I sign off using my signature, which includes my current bid for Governor. Herbert West 3rd, {D}, Candidate for Kansas Governor, 2010.
When will he ever go away! He is an embarrassment. Kansas has to have someone better than Todd to send to Washington!
To: Frank_Lingo He is running to be a Kansas Constituant Elected U.S. Senator. Eventhough they sit in Washington, they are supposed to represent and remember Kansas in their jobs. We vote for our U.S. Representatives and our U.S. Senators. I respect that he is not in Topeka. I just wanted Kansan’s to remember, we have the final say so if he stays or leaves and if he will become a U.S. Senator in the 2010 Kansas Election. Thanks again, Herbert West 3rd, Candidate for Kansas Governor, 2010.
The comments here are 90% against Tiahrt. But if so many people can’t stand the moron, then WHY DOES HE KEEP GETTING RE-ELECTED? What does this say about our values here in Kansas?
Apparently, being a slob is a political asset here.
To: KAT He can be removed during the 2010 Elections. Herbert West 3rd, {D}, Candidate for Kansas Governor, 2010.
BTH
That was the most inscensative and hurtful comment I have read in a long time. Shame on you!
m2wing
Nothing in BTH’s post was out of line. It was appropriate and nothing was more hurtful and offensive than Tiahrt’s rant in the House.
As one poster asked would Todd’s son who killed himself been better off. I do know Knsas would be better off of Todds Mother had made the decision to do so. Except, I forgot, at that time it was illegal anywhee and she might have died having and illegal one.
guy67207…
the United States IS NOT a Christian Nation… it is a multi-cultural melting pot with Christians, Muslims, Jews, Wiccans, Heathens, Pagans, Athesists and Agnostics all living together. If you want to live in a Theocracy, then go find someplace besides the U.S. to live.
Furthermore, if you don ‘t believe in abortion, then I suggest you don’t have one.
Well, what do you know? Ol’ Todd asks a controversial question, and the whole country is talking about him. Make ‘em dance, Todd!
It’s not just a coincidence that Tiart refered to the President and Associate Justice when making his offensive remark. Both are black. Tiart is a closet racist.
Hey m2wing…
How is what BTH any more insensitive than what tankerless Todd said about our president and supreme court justice? or what so many of these racists on this blog have said? None…
Toddy preaches from his pulpit about morality and abortion and yet he cant even take care of his own home… His son killed himself because of his life… Toddy is a hypocrite and this county will be so much better off with him out of office…
m3wing – all I did was respond ‘in kind’ to Tankerless Todd’s comments. If Tiahrt doesn’t want family dragged into things then perhaps he shouldn’t do so.
I stand by my post.
How does he continue to get elected? Because of large contributions from the likes of Kochpac and other right-wing pacs. You would think that by now he would be an embarrassment to them too.
