Ryun endorses Congressman Todd Tiahrt for U.S. Senate

Former Republican Congressman Jim Ryun threw his support behind Congressman Todd Tiahrt’s bid for U.S. Senate.

Ryun represented the 2nd Congressional District until he was ousted by former Rep. Nancy Boyda, a Democrat.

Tiahrt, a Goddard Republican, is running against fellow Republican Rep. Jerry Moran, who currently represents the 1st Congressional District which encompasses most of western Kansas.

The two are hoping to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Republican Sen. Sam Brownback, who is stepping down and running for Kansas governor in 2010.

Below is Ryun’s endorsement letter.

Dear Fellow Kansas Republican,

I served with both candidates currently running for the U.S. Senate seat in Kansas. I strongly endorse Todd Tiahrt.

Todd and Vicki were instrumental in getting me to run for Congress in 1996 and became a close friend and ideological ally as we fought for fiscal restraint and policies that protected life and traditional family values.

Kansans and most Americans want a conservative leader they can trust. They also want a leader who will fight the tough fights and get things done.

If you were in a difficult situation and needed help, the choice would be clear – you would want Todd Tiahrt standing with you.

That is why I am asking you to support Todd today.

Our country is in a difficult situation, and we need leaders who are willing to fight for our values, stand up against difficult odds and not cower in the face of tough votes.

Kansans and conservatives across the nation need Todd Tiahrt in the U.S. Senate to fight the liberal agenda being pushed by President Obama and Speaker Pelosi.

It is not enough to vote the right way most of the time. We need someone who will stand up and speak clearly and strongly for our Kansas values. We have no use for another politician who fades into the background out of fear that he will offend someone and not win 80 percent of the vote in his next election against token opposition.

Whenever I needed assistance on a project I was working on for the 2nd District of Kansas, I would turn to Todd. He has the respect of leadership and his colleagues, and as a result, has been one of the most effective members of the Kansas congressional delegation ever.

Todd was the member of the delegation to get Kansas exempted from the onerous “Wright Amendment,” which made airfares from Wichita to Dallas some of the most expensive in the nation. In just his second term in office, Todd accomplished what many others before him could not.

Todd is also respected because he is consistent and loyal. If he gives you his word, you can take it to the bank. That cannot be said about all of my former colleagues.

That respect and effectiveness may be why my former colleague former Speaker Dennis Hastert has joined me in endorsing Todd. We have worked with both candidates, and we know who will consistently fight for conservative values and get things done.

If I had never met Todd Tiahrt in my life, I would be supporting him for the U.S. Senate because of his record and his long list of accomplishments for Kansas.

Having the benefit of knowing him, knowing how he deals with tragedy and triumph, I can honestly tell you there is no better person for this job for Kansans and true conservatives everywhere.

We need Todd Tiahrt in the U.S. Senate.

Every year in January when we were in Washington, D.C. for the March for Life, I could always count on Todd Tiahrt and Sam Brownback to join me in braving the harsh cold winter weather to encourage pro-lifers from around the country and especially those stalwarts from Kansas, who always seemed to manage to be up front.

Todd is not ashamed of what he believes in, which is why we believe in him.

Please join my wife Anne and me in supporting Todd Tiahrt for the U.S. Senate.

Sincerely,

Jim Ryun

P.S. Please help Todd by sending a contribution to his campaign today!

    Ohhhhh kay.

Who is surprised by this? And really, who cares except other members of the same extremist stripe of the Republican primary voters who are already in Tiahrt’s corner?

GLAD to hear it! We are going to need an honest man in the Senate to help dig us out of this bottomless pit of debt and devestation the current regime is burying us in. It is good to see politicians rising who actually have the nation’s best interests at heart and not their own wallet. As we can already see, all the sucker-fish and people expecting hand-outs and free rides will have something bad to say. I am not a Republican. I am not a Democrat. Generally speaking, both parties should be destroyed for their self-serving, progress-defeating natures. We need to get back to a Gov’t that is for the people and by the people, not those 1% who legislate their own lavish lifestyles at our expense, lie to get into office and subject us to financial ruin because they let the lie hang out there too long. There are honest, good people in office and Rep. Tiahrt is one of them.

TILII, actually that endorsement makes me rethink this race. I was leaning to Moran, and yet I have great respect for Ryun and his evaluation of the two candidates.

Reformers or mavericks like Moran will do very well in the GOP primaries as the little people in the Republican Party are getting very frustrated with out of control earmarks & GOP corruption. Pelosi hs replaced Hastert because he allowed widespread corruption by House Majority Leader Tom Delay & covered up hoosexual sex scandals by Florida Congrssman Foley. Ryun’s loyalty to Tiahrt is commendable, but Tiahrt is too closely affiliated with the corrupt GOP judiciary in Wichita which claim to pro life & pro-family. Brownback’s former protoge US Attonrey Eric Melgren (former Wichita Fouslton Seifkin partner) refused to investigate documented judicial corruption in the Todd Wait case involving criminal racketeering by highranking Wichita Bar Association officals including Kansas Bar Association Board Member Rachel Pirner (married to KAKE newsdirector Dave Grant) & GOP district court judges Douglas Roth, Mark Vining & Michael Corrigan. When State Rep. Jim Morrison started putting political heat on Melgren to investigate, Brownback & US Sen Specter cut a deal with Senate Judiciary Chairman Leahy to suspend normal procecures to fast track the federal district court judge confirmation hearings for Bush nominees Melgren & Specter’s 2 nominees from Pennsylvania in September 2008 even though an Obama victory was assumed.

Federal judge Eric Melgren would not have a life time appointment if it was not for Brownback’s manipulation. Brownback ignores civil rights atrocities in Kansas to protect his own cronies. Judicial corruptiom & accountability & transparency in government will be a big issue in 2010 especially now that Tiller is no longer a hot topic issue and the GOP leadership will not be able to divert attention away from its own corruption. Reagan’s 11th commandment – “Thou shall not criticize another Republican” has led to the moral bankruptcy of the GOP in the same way that the out of control spending & earmarks from 1998 – 2006 by the GOP Controlled Congress has bankrupted the USA. 293-6079 kiakahahaha at yahoo

Given the fact that Ryan bought his house in Washington at a ridiculous discount from an Abrahmof/Delay non-profit whose sole function was to payoff Republicans under the table for votes in Congress, his endorsement to Tiahrt is typical of the problem the GOP has. Old school politicians need to go away, including Tiahrt.

The lunitic conservative Reich wing fringe would like nothing better than to have Herr Tahrt in the Senate. We have had enough of these elitist in Washington bringing this country to its financial knees, now the worm has turned and we have thrown the fat cats out on their cans. Kansas needs to keep it that way by sending both Taihrt and Brownback packing.

Tiahrt will sweep the Kansas come November 2010. By that time, even sane Democrats, sickened of Obama, will be turning to him. He is the man to fight Obama and save our America from destruction!
