Want to peek into Sedgwick County’s checkbook? Now you can.
Chief financial officer Chris Chronis this morning unveiled a new feature of the county’s Web site, www.sedgwickcounty.org, that will allow anyone to see what money is coming in and going out. Commissioner Karl Peterjohn had asked for the financial data to be made readily public, explaining he had been frustrated as a citizen when seeking financial information from government agencies.
The checkbook also will show payments to vendors.
“This is just one more step to take the mystery out of government,” commissioner Tim Norton said.
The checkbook will go live today on the home page of the Web site.

For “itsuckstologin” this is your dream come true. Now you can easily see “who gets the big checks.”
Agreed! Now when people who know everything about county government post some ridiculous statement they can show us proof. Yea right, they will continue to complain w/o looking at facts.
I agree with badspelur. But the sword has two blades. If a person makes a claim that something happened, you can check out the story to see if it is true. If it is, so be it. If it isn’t you can tell the person complaining what the truth is. If that person doesn’t want to accept your explanation, find out what his reasoning is. If he doesn’t have reasoning, it isn’t worth arguing about.

Score. I’ll give it a few days and then check it out. I like government transparency. Especially when it is easily accessible.
Good! Now if we can just get some openness in the BID process… For instance, maybe someone can explain the NO-BID process for giving a HUGE contract to an out-of-state corporation to pick up the recycling bins??
