For those who say raising the state minimum wage will do away with those jobs, I say; who can live on $2.65 per hour anyway? Kansas should be asshamed it has allowed it for so long. Now the state is paying for this sin with a large budget shortfall. For those who don't like unions, take note. This is one of the main reasons why we have unions.
Sorry... forgot to say great post - can't wait to read your next one!

Maybe if all Kansas businesses had had to pay a fair wage for a fair days work before January 01, 2010, the state wouldn't have the budget problems it now has. The Kansas state minimum wage is the lowest in the whole country at $2.65 an hour. It will finally be raised to $7.25 an hour on Jan. 01, 2010. That should help the workers who have been working for slave wages and the state sales tax when these folks have more money to spend.

The legislators need a pay cut. They are the reason we're in this mess. For the past 5 years they have been granting tax breaks to entice business to Kansas. Now they have to give tax breaks due to the economy. If legislators would have stuck with their plan to only provide those special tax breaks for two years, then the State would not have gone overbudget. So if you feel you need to point your finger at anyone, point it at those part-time legislators who are only worried about themselves and their agenda.

To rocknrolltaz........you say-(ALL state employees need their pay cut)
I take offense to that statement. My husband works for the state in the Department of Corrections. He guards prisoners to protect us all from druggies, murders, rapists, child molesters, and the like. You want these hard working people to take a pay cut? I sure hope one of the prisoners doesn't escape and come knocking on your door!!!

I would like to know when our wonderful legislature is going to find time to address the tax refunds that have still not been sent to the people. I will expect a penality payment and interest added to my refund.
