Republican Rep. Todd Tiahrt plans to take the last step he needs to take to make his Senate candidacy official, the Associated Press reports.
His campaign says he plans to file for the office Thursday, filling out the necessary paperwork at 10 a.m. at the Sedgwick County Courthouse, the AP says.
Tiahrt will be the second Republican to file for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. Sam Brownback, who plans to run for governor. Rep. Jerry Moran also has filed, setting up a Republican primary in August 2010.

What excitement. I could hardly wait for the big announcement. I can have a happy meal now.
Oh gag me!
Mr. Tiahrt, you’ve been in Washington about as long as Mr. Glickman was when you ousted him! I think it’s time to return the favor. Your days are numbered Mr. No more life-long politicians. Time to go back home.
Is this Tiahrt’s way of finally living up to his term limits pledge?
If Todd Tfart can bring in the tanker deal, elect him. If he continues to do nothing, he needs to be replaced. People really need to look at his voting record and his gun control policies.
It is time for a referendum to our representatives people. NO CAREER POLITICIANS!!
He can take over for Brownback of the just say no party.
Tihart is an idiot
Send Sebelius back to Ohio and Teahrt back to South Dakota. Kansans don’t need carpet baggers running our government.
Please, Kansas, give him a vacation and elect someone else. He is a one issue pol and that is against a woman’s right to choose. He does nothing in DC so let him come back to Kansas and go back to work for Boeing.
Todd needs to get off the DC Gravy Train and try working for a living again – IF HE CAN FIND A REAL JOB! Conservatism didnt work out so well for his son…
Representative Tiahrt is “Mr. Earmarks.” Jerry Moran is in the tradition of someone who represents his people in the way that was intended for a representative to behave. His “NO” vote on the prescription drug benefit prgram is an example. It was for his constituents. He was under enormous pressure from the destroyer of the Republican House Speaker, Dennis Hastert, to vote for the program. In fact, he had to run and hide from the arm twisters. Rep. Moran said that he was voting in the negative because the bill would destroy pharmacies in the small towns of Kansas, which it did. Ask the people of some of the small towns about what they have to do to get a pharmaceutical prescription filled. I would add, too, that the vote was in violation of “normal” procedures and kept open for several hours in order to twist the arms of enough people so that it barely passed.
