Kansas Legislature’s agenda for Jan. 26 to 30

Here are some of the hearings scheduled in House and Senate committee meetings for next week. The list is preliminary and can change.

The House and Senate each publish daily calendars listing the hearings scheduled for the week and what bills might be debated in the respective chambers. The calendars are posted on the Kansas Legislature’s website.

Jan. 26-30

Monday

House Energy and Utilities, 9 a.m., Docking Room 783: hold hearings on House bills 2033, 2034, 2038 which include provisions requiring utilities to join a climate registry and develop ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Senate Local Government, 9:30 a.m., room 446-N: hear presentations from the League of Municipalities and the Kansas Association of Counties.

Tuesday

Senate Agriculture, 8:30 a.m., room 446-N: review of a Legislative Post Audit report studying the benefits of merging the Animal Health Department and State Conservation Commission into the Agriculture Department.

House Commerce and Labor, 9 a.m., Docking Room 784: hear a presentation on the Center of Innovation for Biomaterials in Orthopedic Research.

Senate Ways and Means, 10:30 a.m., room 545-N: hear an overview of the Sexual Predator Treatment Program and expansion.

Senate Public Health and Welfare, 1:30 p.m., room 136-N: hear testimony from supporters of Senate Bill 25, which would ban smoking in indoor public areas.

House Health and Human Services, 1:30 p.m., Docking Room 784: hear a presentation on the Center of Innovation for Biomaterials in Orthopedic Research.

Wednesday

Senate Ethics and Elections, 9:30 a.m., room 446-N: hearing on Senate Bill 2, which would require certain state officers, employees and appointees wait two years before becoming lobbyist.

Senate Public Health and Welfare, 1:30 p.m., room 136-N: hear testimony from opponents of Senate Bill 25, which would ban smoking in indoor public areas.

Thursday

House Energy and Utilities, 9 a.m., Docking Room 783: hearings on House bills 2020, 2043 and 2051 which include provisions creating a renewable energy incentive program, and allowing net metering for wind and solar generation.
